[WIP] new map

Hi.
Heres a few pics of a new map im working on currently, yes im aware of the bad lighting in the room and the fact hardly any buildings have roofs :P
I started this b4 harbor so it was really bad (not that harbor was any better) but yer ive gone thru and prettymuch replaced all my old brushwork....... Its nearing completion and here ive only shown shots from one half.

Having the road and the sidewalk the same texture is a bit confusing...and the sides of the buildings with the shingles well, looks kind of funny having shingles on a sheer wall.

great brushwork but I have to say it looks exactly like vehgal, diversion & escape, and IM sure a few others.

Because of that, It doesnt give your map too much of an original look. If your not worried about that, then fine, just I would be.

And I realize texture sets are limited but try maybe using a different map's wad set, like JagD or Caen, or falaise, all of which are seldom used and very good.

I understand what ya mean dude, the sidewalk texture is scaled down a fair bit for escape but liek i didnt do it because i wanted the sidewalks to be wider but because of that they couldnt really be scaled down. to those who said it looks like vehgel yes obviously im using the same wad....veg looks like escape :P

Texturing doesnt worry me all that much,

Texture alignment is the keyword. The textures on the sides of the roofs need to be rotated and the texure on the top (and probably the bottom) of the beams, covering the door (90 degrees).

Further more, it looks good, maybe a bit ot bright for my likings.

i merged a few different wads together for diversion (although the escape.wad was rather prominent) so perhaps try that. I know it can get difficult to keep a theme going, and highly contrasting textures from obviously different wads can have a negative effect on the atmosphere, you just have to search around for a texture in another wad thats 'similar' but 'different' at the same time. Its tough. Textures that could be changed easily without having a negative effect on the style, would be the road, and the building foundation blocks. good luck with that.

nothing is final in this map and there is still a lot of things that havent been replaced. When i release it people might say there isnt a lot of depth and that is true...... Im just working thru some of the old maps ive had sitting around for a long while that i never finnished.... may even do maisy yet

not sure if im ready for feedback from mappers just yet, I know this map aint the best as ive said but i dont think im ready to pass it around just yet.

I always talk myself and my maps down if you havent noticed.....so i can stave away from people thinking i think the map is great when really it isnt. Weird i know but what can i say?

heh we all do that, I think all my maps are crap, and I can't see what people see in it when they say it looks good.
A good example is what some people have said about my source map desolation I think its :crown::crown::crown::crown: but people think its looking nice, werid to me big time.

I think people say that because it is one of the very few screenshots we have actually seen of custom dod:s maps. Okay that sounded completely wrong but i cang reword it, it does certainly look a great map - u have talent rick, ive had a run on the map and can say its really top quality work, nice atmosphere and all :).

btw i think sherman2 is bad and yet its played by CAL dod - obviously the largest dod league in the world and gets played in others like clanbase (eur)

So yer as hard as it is for us to accept peoples opinions ive yet to find a cure for this devastating disease.

what were we talking about again?

I think in the end most mappers are humble and when they see what other people can do they're like doh why can't mine be that good?

as for what we were talking about it, we where discussing the cure for cancer we discovered :p
