I made this with HL2 in mind, but the .mdl is HL1. You will have to port it if you wish to do so, however, I don't need it in HL2 atm and wont be doing so.

The idea behind making this is not really to warn about minefields, rather, to let the mappers border off their maps naturally without having to use hedges or walls to box their maps in and keep players within a certain area.

So, feel free to use displacement brushes and let the views go off in the distance without having to worry about borders, walls or hedges. Make yourself a minefield beyond the signs to ward off deserters.

I dunno...I'm not impressed with it at all. I like the idea, but it just looks tacky.

lol, i appreciate the honesty gorbechev.

Its not mean to be beautiful, its meant to be functional.

Its not something your gonna be staring at in-game if you use it, obviously. Itd probably end up being target practice. And, you can replace the texture on the front, its a 256x256, so you can make your own sign quickly and easily if you wish.

In my opinion, the text looks fake.

I'm not sure what the germans used but I would expect stenciled on text or simply a picture.

The model is fine, granted it could have a few chips or areas that are off-centre too. The skin and wood grain are just ugly though. The accuracy isn't far off, it's just not quite "right".

With gothic font it would definitely look more german :).
Add some dirt too.
Texture poles with plain (non-painted) wood.

the wood is stretched because of the bad uv-map.
if anybody should it then add more textures or a better uvmap with a different background. its just not ok like it is now :)

hey good job devil, hows about posting it as the official update :)
as you probably saw, theres nothing wrong with the model, i just didnt feel like wasting too much time on a 32 poly model's skin.

Besides, I knew someone would get suckered into redoing it, :eek:

The painted part is good, but that leaves the grain on the posts which are a bit hard to look at in that iteration, good job updating it so far though DEv.
