Help making custom crosshairs

I've been having trouble making some custom crosshairs, and I was hoping someone on these forums could help me. What I'm trying to do is take the CAL custom crosshair pack and modify one of the crosshairs a bit. Modifying the .bmp is easy enough, and using Sprite Wizard to make the .spr file is pretty straight forward, but in game my crosshairs are always surrounded by a large black rectangle. Here is a screenshot:

I figured this is because the background isn't transparent in the .spr file, so I tried every transparency setting possible in Sprite Wizard (there are only four), but it always turns out the same. Can anyone who is familiar with Sprite Wizard or with making custom crosshairs in general let me know what I'm doing wrong?

The trasnsparency is set in the .bmp pallette, read the link in my sig How to make your own flags, it covers transparencies, written for JASC in mind but other programs are similar
