yeah, and if you look close I have that cross wood flooring out on the deck too. texture work still needs a lot of clean up. you should see the parts I didn't show, d'oh!

I'm getting close to having all the brush work done, so hopefully I can get the texture stuff nailed down. I'll probably be using a lot of my own textures. when that time comes I'll need you guys to help me figure out how everything is fitting together. right now the only textures that are mine are the sky and the treeline you can see in the second pic.

Ive just realised what the first pic reminds me of.... Chicken Run :D

The sky is nice, but i think the trees in it are a bit big

LOL, yeah I was thinking that too LOL. its supposed to look like a stalag. I copied the look of the camp from "the great escape" and as soon as I zoomed out to look at it, I thought, hmmm, chicken run. guess they were going for the same look.

afa the sky goes. I agree. too much white around the edges of that stand of trees anyway. there are trees all over on the sides of the sky, but those ones up on the ridge just don't work the way I'd like. the problem is that they are too high in the sky so you can see them from a long way off. if you are all the way on that side of the map they look good, but looking across the map they look too big. I'll probably just edit them out.

Neutrino: thanks, I'm trying to make sure this doesn't look like every other map out there, but still has wide appeal.
thanks for the comments guys. keep it coming.

looks aiight, texturing on the builing in the last pic is bad.

i dug up this forest texture for you, it looks a heap better than your current one so i hope you use it ;)

oh btw it also looks nice scaled up so a good all rounder, infact i think it was made to be scaled up :P

thanks, I took a look at it and it might look nice. I'll pop it in and see if I like it better.

your current one seems to have the green far too bright and wtf is that sorta purple tint :/?

i like this one because as i sad you can really scale it up :P

I'll throw yours in and take a look, but I would like to use at least some of my own textures so I have a unique look. I believe a few people have complained about default skies and such on some other thread ;)

if the only problem with mine is that the green is too bright, thats easily taken care of with a little color adjust in photoshop. afa the purple spot, I hadn't noticed that before, I'll try and remove it (assuming I don't decide to just use your texture).

heres the same screenshot with that texture you provided random:

I know, I got to stretch it up a bit to get rid of that line, but other than that, which do you guys like better?

that question is not serious is it?

if it is then please take the second and also align the house texture in the last pic and the ones on the train.

It seems your rushing away just to post something.

TBH, its looking a lil 3.1'ish. Using a dirt road texture would probably suffice much better than the gravel, looks too old, low res and stretched.

I think that the treeline you originally had would be better suited in a darker map, and the new one is better for this one...:)

that tree texture looks a lot better imho, i would suggest scaling it up a touch however. I dunno about everyone else and how they get rd of the texture repeating at the top :P but i align to bottom then drop it down a few units to meet the "real" top of the texture; i think its a half life thing for it to tile the next few units in your standard brush size 128 256 etc... if you understand what im trying to say :P

actually I'm not finished, but I posted a few screenshots to see if I could get some constructive comments before I got too far, and I did.

I now have a much better tree texture (I think I was just holding on to the idea of using my own texture, the new one looks much better)

I also got some comments on the sky and the fact that I am actually building chicken run :D

I'm pretty sure this map is for 3.1

random: yeah, I understand what you're saying, I just forgot to tap it up a few units.

I do this, or I make the brush to a proper power of two scale, make all sides null, then apply the treeline texture to the visible sides, align it etc. and then often there's a lot of "bluespace" at the top, so I just lower the height of the brush 2 or more units (depending on where the top of the trees in the texture are) so that it avoids the line.
