A further attempt at wood [Enfield]

After Brutal gave me some helpful advice on my Springfield, I've been testing his tips out in Photoshop.

Strangely enough, it was one of Brutal's textures I modified again, [love the grunginess of his work] namely, his Enfield.

In the pic below Brutal's on top and mine on bottom. All I changed was the wood, and the little 'clip' things, as you can see. Tips and constructive critism welcome. :)

Hello, picture here. (http://img13.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img13&image=compare014wp.jpg)

Thanks Imageshack.

Brutal is the man when it comes to wood textures. So listen to his advice cause he knows what he's talking about. And great job on your modified texture.

Actually yours is much much better (not being offensive.. brutal now can do tons better himself).

Brutal's work just blows me away. I've used pretty much every skin he's made. So much talent. :(

Thanks for the comments guys.

If it looks good on my school's crappy 15in LCD monitor, it must be good. Nice work.

No offense to Splinter's fans out there, but I think Brutal was and still the best when it comes to skinning.

Nothing brutal has released here is as great as what he can do now.. is what i've tried to say...

(rofl @ swedish's sig... "soo realistic"... although it shows some guy scratching his head while firing his thompson with one hand :p )

@Makabi: I said "soo realistic" out of sarcasm.. I was trying to point out that everyone says it is "soo realistic", yet it shows superman shooting his tommy like a pistol :mod:

Did Brutal release a scoped version for this gun?

Amen too that. Splinter's skins are great, but they all look the same.

but they all look the same.

I agree maybe two or three look the same but please, don't generalize.

On topic:
I honestly prefer your wood more since it's compared to one of Brutal's more older works (which a little eh..ZZZ?). It looks more contrasted and polished which makes it look more interesting unlike the flat and dreary one that Brutal made. Easy on some of the highlights tho. For example the highlight by the metal brace in the rear near the hand placement is too bright and really not needed. Good work so far on the lightings tho. Definitely an improvement over the top one!

Thanks for the tips Splinter. I was finding before that my highlights weren't bright enough, so I think I may have overcompensated here.

Also, I didn't really mean to compare the wood I did to Brutal's. He's 100x better than me. I just wanted to show what I actually changed, because I can't take credit for anything other than the wood.

Thanks everyone for the comments and especially for the pointers. Every bit helps as I try to get better at this stuff.

Ugh, when will people finally realize that MSA isn't about "omg xxx is better than xxx!".. it's about people who take time off of their own hands to release something that they themselves are pleased with and is kind enough to share with everyone else. There is no right or wrong when it comes to personal preference..
