Hi,

I just wanted to let you people know I'm working on another map now: dod_schliefen.

DoD_Schliefen, basicly, is a little town (and a little map) wich will probably turn out to become a Capture The Flag map. The screenshot's I provided may look too dark for some of you: I'll change that.
The Allied forces will be the Americans since the map is rather small/urban and probably most suite for American arms.
I guess DoD_Schliefen will be best played with 8/16 players. Current progress: 80%

As usual, constructive critisism is very welcome and appreciated.

P.S, Overview coming soon.

I would think the benches would face the opposite way. Normally they have their backs to the patches of grass.

Please move along if you don't have anything constructive to say Random... :kitty:

Looks like the dod_escape's lost brother :D

Make the ambient less dark or maybe make it rainy, there are not a lot of raining maps, other than that good job!

saying that those are overused textures is constructive thanks kt, that is my opinion and as long as im inside the posting rules of this forum i can voice it as i please, you move along son.

:confused:

What's your problem?
Look, if you're not out to post anything I can do something with within reason, think twice befoe you post or ruin a thread.

Please don't post here anymore if you don't have... Ah what the heck... :(

If he thought that those were the most appropriate textures for that map, then it's his problem.

Not everyone can make his own textures, and I'm sure if he wanted some custom textures he would have requested to someone to make some textures for him. Resources it's what itsn't lacking around here.

Random has a point, but frankly all the dod textures have been overused by this point because people are either too lazy to do their own or dont ask for more custom textures. But you do need to try and deversify a bit and if your looking for something new thats what these forums are for.

On the other hand, even though I can make most things I need, I still use the default textures the most for HL1 simply because they are in the "materials.txt" file and have the corresponding sprites and sounds associated with them. So theres a bit of give and take on that end.

I'm sorry but I don't see any point since I asked for (yes, here we have the two words again) constructive critisism.
Saying 'more overused textures ;'<' is not constructive, really. It's a fact I can do nothing with (yup) within reason. I asked for constructive critisism + not getting it (from Random) = no point.
Period.

But to not turn this thread into a discussion wether anyone has a point or not, I'll focus myself on my map again :(

Thanks for the feedback I had allready from you guys!

you could have just taken it for what it was then you wouldnt have the need to have a big cry about it. If you arent prepared for comments you shouldnt be mapping and you deffinately shouldnt be using this forum, mappers need a thick skin as you cannot please everyone - its impossible. The only maps ive never had any problem with ever are rr and anzio. Your a custom mapper, not everyone is going to say wow i love you its awesome - they might say that elsewhere but not here in the MAPPING FORUMS which is primarily used by MAPPERS. Dont post on this forum if your looking for randoms to praise you, as i said this forums is used by mappers mainly and we like to voice out opinions on other maps here.

Looks good, when will it be ready you think? could use something small and fast to replace cour, rennes etc...

Oh and Random, that wasn't constructive, that was your opinion, same as saying I dont like it, you gave no alternative, no other idea, that was like saying "oh no, another city map" Things like saying, hunt some custom stuff down, use various textures from all the wads to break up custom and default texturing, now that is advice, not the insultive opinion you gave.

Yes mappers need thick skin to hear the "real" advice, not pissy little snide remarks about their work, you are proud to advertise your mapping name, and as a mapper should realize that and should have given help not insult.

It's a dead topic, but kt you should take random's comment as constructive. Seriously, the maker of sherman couldn't possibly be taking a stab at you for using repetitive textures.

Nice overview, but I can see an issue you'll probably need to address....

The allies have one spawn exit, that can be pegged down easily from two flanks. You will probably need to add another exit, and maybe change the shape of that courtyard.

The allied have two more exists actually. Both of them go into the houses on the left and the right side. :)

* Wipes of sweat from forehead while grabbing a new can of coke and eating chips at the same time *

I made some changes. These are things Iv'e done so far:
- added another house to be 'invaded';
- added hedgehogs;
- added brighter lightning;
- replaced the parkbenches;
- added spawnprotection for the axis;
- added some sidewalks.

Here are 7 new pic's:

Schlief07 (http://home.wanadoo.nl/atia/dod_schliefen/dsn7.jpg)

I hope to bring out this map real soon. I'm facing a very busy period and I'm not sure what's going to happen with this map when I don't have the time to work on it. :(
Anyway, enjoy the footage! :)
