VMF format flawed

Ok.. I have been working on a map since late 2003.. it started out as a dod map, then it became a cod map and now it will be a dod source map :p but I'm having some problems recently that might stall things even more.

The new VMF format seems uncapable of rendering basic sphere shapes and the like  When I build certain shapes in the new hammer, make it a HL2 map and save it in RMF format, everything is alright, but when I save it in .VMF certain shapes get screwed up

I am not good at modelling, but I'm very capable of making the shapes I want in Hammer without generating any map errors. It's just that certain shapes are detroyed in the RMF-VMF conversion process.

I could post some pictures that visualise the problem.

Since this is a Q&A forum, and the official sdk/hammer forum is a terribly messy and overcrowded place to post issues like this, I was hoping someone in these forums could let me know if they are experiencing the same problems and if Valve employees read this, if the issues will be fixed in the future...

TIA for any feedback

Tell me why you'd really need a sphere in brush form anyway?

RMF:

VMF:

This shows the problem (map has no errors and of course these brushes are meant to be detail brushes ;))

One more thing: fixing these shapes back to how they are supposed to be in VMF format, won't fix things at all. When the map is loaded again, the same errors are there again

This has happened for a lot of people, I haven't seen it in my maps even in areas of complexity, so I'm not sure the cause exactly. The only suggestion at this stage is to rebuild and then copy+paste the brush to the locations.

I have tried that as well, but my guess is that the .VMF format doesn't translate the input as correct geometry.

Regardless of how you build or add these brushes to the VMF file, saving and opening it again always results in bad shapes (for me).

looks like a format conversion rounding error.

You should use models for the spheres.

I haven't modelled before and XSI doesn't exactly look user-friendly to me. Also, I would need to make textures for these models myself, which is also new for me.

Think I'm also gonna need some custom textures for some of the houses, so maybe it's best to ask someone else for this job as soon as the rest of the map is ready (after dod: s release of course).

If only I was multi-talented :(
