Problem with rain

Here's a strange problem that comes up with the rain in my map. I did a search and couldnt find anyone else who had posted the same problem: It works fine, except sometimes, it just cuts out completely. This can happen both when I'm standing under a sky brush and when I'm standing under a solid brush, so I know its got nothing to do with the distance particles are rendered at. Any ideas/suggestions as to what may be causing this?

Random areas. High or low detail doesnt really seem to have anything to do with it. Nor whether or not you're standing under a sky brush.

Post screens of hammer shots on where it cuts out.

I figured it out- it happens whenever I get to a spot that is within one player model's height or so of a sky brush. The obvious solution is the raise the sky brushes (I was going to do that eventually anyways, to allow for clean grenade movement over long distances, the low sky brushes were just temporary :| ) Anyone know why this happens though?

I think the rain effect works volumetricly sort of so if the space between the top and bottum of your map is to few units then the rain will not render when you enter this area
