Bending

Is there a way to "bend" brushes in hammer? Im making a small stream, and I want it curve around though a wooded area...but the only way I know how to make it smoothly corner is through a whole hell-of-a-lot of clipping...like this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/superfanthony/clipping.jpg) . It works, but it is a pain in the butt. I was wondering if there is an easier way to do it.

there is no way to "bend" brushes in hammer.

either do it your clipping way, or make several brushes and stick them together.

brushes can't be concarve, so you need to use many convex brushes.

how did you do that clipping thing?

There are a lot of unnecessary faces in that picture. Combine the brushes in a column to save w_polies.

Vetex manipulation and the cylinder tool are your friends.

Make a cylinder, I used 32 faces for this , but you dont have to use 32, you could use 12, depends on how "curved" you want it to look.
Objects menu on right side, drop down to cylinder, then choose faces, or how many sides it has.

Useing the clipping tool, the block with a corner cut off, or shift+X, cut it in half then a quarter.

Useing the Vertex tool, box with the red corner points, shift+V adjust it back on the grid, since when you clip it , it may not line up correctly.

Useing the cut and realigned curve part make solid block down to match each face, vetex manipulate them to match, until you have all the sides done, copy that new part, select all the parts of the new curve, and then group them together, tools then group, select them if not already highlighted with the pointer tool and alternate or right click and choose copy. Then paste it and adjust the curve to match where you want the other side at, to give you the inside and outside curve, then bring solid blocks up to match the curves, vertex manipulate them up to match.

Then add you water or road texure, whatever you want to curve and match each face up and down, vertex manipulate them top and bottom

Included is the RMF in various stages, hope this helps.

Not entirely familiar with what you mean. Although Ive been tyring to map for a while, I have only recently gotten somewhat serious about it...so if you could elaborate on why it is beneficial to do that, I would appreciate it.

As far as how to do it, PanFrie, its simple.

I kinda just figure things out in Hammer on my own. Im not familiar with all the tips, tricks, and tools...so if there is an easier and/or better way to do this sort of stuff, please lemme know!

Wow...you really beat me to the punch, there!

Thanks, SSG. I will tinker with that method when I get a chance.

Do it the same way as SSG...but even then that is overkill.

not to mention the horrible effects on r_speeds and no doubt the vis errors as a result, you dont need smooth edges and you certainly dont need all those dodgy clipped brushes, horibuke.
