Yep, Telefragged has shut me down today, and carelessly deleting all of tutorials and files before i could back them up leaving me with nothing:

"I have decided to delete your site. You cost us an enormous bandwidth bill for doing this."

So yeah, im dead in the water with nothing now.

this means my tutorials wont work anymroe for you new people or any of the stuff i hosted. not much i can do about it folks

I suggest that one of us who has webspace can make a database of all of Editor's stuff, and us common peeps can submit whats left.

Wait, they complain when they KNEW what kinda site you ran?

I seriously think we should make this info as public as possible. PHL might be interested in it. But we could just phrase it as 'Editor's website has been deleted by Telefragged for bandwidth reasons and because of the sudden loss of his data, he didn't get a chance for a backup and is requesting anyone out there with copies of files he hosted please send them over.'

well Cheeto, here is the run down:

Greetings Staff of Telefragged!

I am very pleased with the services you offer for hosting and wish to be hosted.

Although I'm not ready I decided to write this email to say that in the near future I'd like to be hosted. I'm currently stationed at Planet Half-Life with GameSpy, but i no longer see their services are up to par of what they should be. The main problem is they didn't pay any attention to issues with my site and they also failed to return my emails

With that I am deciding to take my site elsewhere. You can currently view it athttp://www.planethalflife.com/editor321. Just some quick info on my site. It is a Day of Defeat (Half-Life Modification) custom model site. I'd receieve custom content from the community and host their works. Over the years there has been a terrible purge in that community and all the people that submitted work have left, leaving a scare few that still turn out content. Which leads me to expand to cover three mods instead of just that one. I've decided to make a fresh start and host models from the Sven Co-op community as well as the newly developed and recently released mod, Hostile Intent.

Being aware of the fact you host a skin archives, which unforturantly I have yet to find, (my bad) I offer the chance to get much more content that your skin archives by talking with the people the develope/create/modify these models. Please also keep in mind I don't just host models, but sounds, sprites, and anything else customizable in these Half-Life mods.

I've had four years of experience running a site like this and have come off quite successful. Two of the mods I've mentioned, Sven Co-op and Hostile Intent, people in those communities don't have a place to go to meet their customizing needs. I'd like to be there.

My site currently up is the Day of Defeat one that I ran, so please don't mistake it for a final product as I'm finishing up a new site as we speak.

Hope to hear from you fine ladies and gentlemen soon, and great place you guys have here :)

Your's Truly
Thomas "Editor321" Rogers

PS: I love the idea of the Personal Touch, sounds great that the people that host you actually contact you and all.

When my site when down for that extended peroid of time i sent this email:

I sent you an email regarding this, but you didnt answer, i dont know if you didnt read or receive it but im sending it again:

"The only time I get this is when i did something wrong, what did i do wrong this time?

Or is it some server problem you guys are having?"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Usually when they disabled my hosting its because i did something wrong FYI

The Reply

Your site has never truly opened but i did find a large # of files that I am not sure what they are being downloaded from the webserver.
-rwxr-xr-x 1 editor321 users 26172376 Mar 13 2004 DOD b3.1 steam.exe

for example

My reply to that:

On Oct 28, 2004, at 2:29 PM, Thomas Rogers wrote:

Its hard making a site on your own with serveral different communities. The Hostile Intent Portal is open, im closing the Day of Defeat one and opening a The Trenches portal, ill be sure to give the opening much more attention.

The DOD b3.1 Steam.exe is the old version of dod b3.1. The UK 3.1 Community asked me to host a steam compatible version, if its a problem ill take it down no questions asked.

if there are any other files that you are unsure of, let me know and ill either remove them upon your request or try to explain their purpose to you.

Thanks
Tom

didn't you make back ups of your stuff? many providers say, the customer has to backup all stuff on the site for not having to redo everything incase the servers get f....ded.

but deleting the website without any prior warning stinks.

don't worry, b3.1UK died and I can easily make another one ;)

I still have the game installed, I'll just have to remake the menu.
I hope it wasn't soley that file which cost you your site, if theres anything I can do to get back at them (articles, emails or whatever) then just let me know.

Here is an email regarding your written emails:

"i was planning on this but now that i am receiving hate mail from your DOD community, I will probably will just delete it.

I appreciate your community response."

I wrote this email back

i would very much like to have a quick access to take my personal work down, i dont want to leave this with any more sore feelings, all i want is my content, i dont care about the hosting. just the content i want to download off the ftp so i can put it up somewhere else, more than just the dod community is going to take a hit from this, please consider them

I echo this sentiment.

Do not bombard Telefragged with smarmy complaint emails.

It's just not the way to achieve things.

Anyone who thinks differently will have their arse in a sling from here sooner than they can blink.

I will not see the DoD community, certainly not based from these boards, dragged down to the level of imbeciles who act first and think afterwards.

Yes, what has happened to Editor321's files is annoying and out of order, but that wont excuse mailing a third party hosting site with vitriol and abuse.

It stops Now.
