[WiP] Dod_solitude update

I've been working on a final version of solitude for some time now. Finally gotten it to a state where I can take some pictures of it and not be ashamed.

The view from the snipertower, looking towards the Axis half of the map.
It's quite undetailed at the moment.

The Allied "courtyard" near the snipertower. I'm really happy with the look of this place.
Of course, it needs more details.

Axis spawn exits. I've put up some trees to prevent Allies shooting inside the spawn window, also made it more detailed. Please excuse the pink/black texture near the tree, I forgot to update the .wad file :(

Axis second flag. It looks nicer than before.

Has a certain, "farmhouse" feeling to it.


But sure looks pretty small, I mean the places look pretty small..

The layout is the same, with some very minor tweaks.
Both spawns are being completely rebuilt to try to prevent spawncamping.

nice work man! this has been one of my favorite maps for quite awhile and it looks quite a bit better.

I agree with a previous poster, looks good with out the "more detail". of course I liked it before this update, so I'm sure you know what you're doing :D

One balance comment:

It is extremely easy to cap on the Allies, thanks to the route up the stairs by their 2nd flag, and then sprinting out the door, jump/prone on their first.

The Axis are much harder to cap on, since you can come at them from only two sides (to the allies 3), and they are fairly choked off areas.

Have you considered putting a rope underneath the Axis window overlooking the Tower/courtyard/door to the double-man flag, allowing Allies to get up into that building? That would give the Allies 3 routes to axis first, same as the Axis have to the allied first.

Allways liked this map, except that I allways got
stuck in some :hamster::hamster::hamster::hamster:ed up vertexes around the tree base in axis
spawn, just as you jumped out the window before the flag.
But that might be sorted know...?

(And I do think that it would benefit from some war feel,
like blown up houses and rubble, but hey)

Brilliant.

Solitude is, by far, my favorite clan-play map. Every time I've had a scrim or match on it, I had a blast... win or lose. I'm really looking forward to this version, it looks awesome. :)

This is my favourite custom map, and I've played hundreds. Although seeing as I mapped belfort and use a lot of similar textures for that the new ones kinda put me off a bit. :p The texturing is fine, I'm sure you understand what it's like seeing the same textures for a few months when making a map. There were a few sticky areas of the map that kind of frustrated me, but overall it is varied enough to have a good mix of even gameplay. And those high up sniper windows are great targets for a little nade-off-the-roof present.
