REL puff shot sprite

Ok guys, 1st of all this sprite was made by Free Kitten. Repeat Free Kitten and not me. I don’t really have his permission because I don’t really see him around in the forums anymore since he released this back in 2.0 or 2.1. This sprite is for when you shoot somebody. More smoke will come out when you shoot somebody and every once in awhile, some blood along with the smoke. Remember one of the last scenes in SPR when a guy in a kar shot a running US paratrooper and smoke appeared on the paratrooper’s body upon impact? The sprite is something like that. The only reason I released this is because I think many people don’t know about this and it is a cool and realistic sprite so why not spread it around right? This actually came with 3 other sprites. The other 3 were for bigger smoke when you hit walls and objects. I lost the zip file and the other sprites so I’m releasing this alone.

Replace the shotdust.spr in your DoD\sprites folder. Make sure to backup. If anybody knows Free Kitten and is still in contact with him please tell me so I can tell him about this. If he doesn’t approve or something I’ll just delete my thread. Thanks.

I don't wanna complain cause its a cool idea. Are the dust clouds a bit too big maybe? From the looks of the screens they are...

Very unrealistic looking, IMO. It looks like a fog cloud every time someone gets hit. Make them a lot smaller, then it will look more real.

if you shoot a wall most likely nothing will happen, make some pieces of conrete would fall out, this is just absurd

I think it's a nice idea, but it is far too big.

I rather would want saving private ryan style of bullet hit particlefx. Random smok grows and ****...
DAMMIT! Why can't I do particlefx, then you would have beautiful fx now.. :)

Actually this isnt too far from realistic at all. in SPR (wich i believe was one of the most realistic war movies around) had this same effect.

what it is, is when the soldiers go out and get dirty, and all this dust and **** accumilates on them. not to mention the layering in the cloth (I.E. Wool, etc.) now if they were to be shot, you can expect some dust and cotton fibers to fly out, that is if theres an exit wound.

the only thing i have to complain about here is the fact of how big the dust is. i dont think any german or american got THAT dusty. and the fact that there is no blood there. but yeah its pretty realistic if you ask me.

there was a similar sprite released, that combined dust & blood, wich was a pretty nice touch. forgot where it went though, i wish i could get my hands on it

when people get shot, u dont really see any blood until they hit the ground and it leaks out, this is very realistic but the sprite is too big.

That is exactly what I had in mind. The smoke may be a lil too big but I think you guys should try it ingame 1st. Its really cool and I don't know if it can be considered cheating but its an easier way to know if you hit somebody. Free kitten made this so I don't have any idea how to make the smoke smaller. BTW thanks for mirroring it at the DoD editing center that way more people will know about it.

Ok, I played some DoD and noticed that the shot-dust sprite isn't actually that big. I think it seems big because the bots in the screenshots were actually killed by automatic weapons. So the more the bullets that hit the person, the more dust/smoke.
