hey lads, havent been working much lately but i thought id flash some screenies around, webhosting is down atm unfortunately so files hosted @ image shack ;P

messing round with lighting so i havent decided on a light style yet - its been thru everything from sunny days to rainy nights ;P , and this is why you will see with the dark lighting there is no lights in buidlings ect ;P

You've come an incredibly long long way from teh n00b mapper i once knew... I think that time i helped you work with grid sizes and rubble really helped ya. Lighting and atmosphere are tops, adn the brushwork looks spot on.

im really proud of you my young apprentice. (Even though you are actually older than me) Keep it up.

Wow...

Looks really cool RaNdoM. I like the torn houses and textures you used. I would really like to see your layout, but what I saw from your screenshots: touché!

The only thing I would add are som lantarns on the streets for the night version. Use yellow light.

Great job,

tomato :vader:

yep. good work.

you should add more brushwork to the buildings if thats possible. especially the roofs (http://img89.exs.cx/img89/1834/dod_maisy5.jpg)

good looking streets aswell. add some models into the rubble aswell. Use the rubble model, or destroyed pipes, or just add your own wood here and there with the addition of cement blocks. this looks good so keep it up.

looks very good, but the lighting is the same all the way through. need some light and dark areas, and shadows.

shadows arent always present in the world. its not a MUST anyways. i think he should keep that style of lighting, but just find a skybox with the sun(moon) being blocked by clouds or something.

i like the look of it, gj with the rubble and such. :)

The lighting i think is fine for ambient light, i would add some streetlights and stuff to brighten up some areas and give contrast. A slightly paler sky would match better imo too.

(what do I have to do? Put a gun to your head..huh)
:D

wow im a overwhelmed by the positive feedback i never thought id get so thank you all and of course thanks to gingerlord and kominaa for the great textures and jed for hid fine model work, as aformentioned ive been messing around with the lighting ect i just took these screenies yesturday in another test, rest asured i will put more lights in if this is the lighting effect i will go with, a few vis errors need fixing and that damn busted building with the wall in the middle on the 3rd floor doesnt look to inviting - it was actually meant to be a little bit of vis blocking for a tree on the otherside but i have since just added in craters and rubble - ditched the tree, i dont know how this map will turn out to be honest but i think this is by far my best effort and i hope to release a beta and gain some valuable feedback with which i can build the map up and can only hope it turns out well so please keep feeding my ego that i am on the way to producing something worthy and any critticism that is constructive i will very much appreciate as it all helps me on the way to creating a better map, thank you all.

I'll see if I can fit them in to my project spine.

RaNdoM: I want more screenies!!!

random, set light_environment pitch value to -45, so you get some shadows...

i dont think i ever told you that... took me ages to work that out myself actually... of course the 45 doesnt matter... thats just any angle, but the minus is important... talk to me on irc if you need any help, ill be glad to help with this map :)

the dark blue sky is a little strong for your choice of lighting and textures. maybe u should edit it to make it a little more dull? if u can or want. its not a bad thing though. overall good stuff
