hey ok i was looking at atlese 20 tutriles and this is after just messing around but it looks pritty cool so what do u guys think? im hoppong to get MUTCH better ;)

the first thing I noticed, if you care..., is that he is charging it with his pinky, it can be done, but a lot easier with the pointer finger, and especialy in the heat of battle, the finger will just come up more naturaly.

Try going to a gun store and going through the motions (ask before you actualy "kawk" it though, most places don't like it) even a BB gun should give you enough of a referance to see which feels more natural, :vader::vader::vader::vader: even a stick with a nail in it would work.

I have a few guns, and I test out my own movements and you will be suprised of how much you take for granted. The pitch and yaw of the barrel is a lot more different than you might think.

good to see another animator in here, there are too few ;)

You asked for the AVI thing right?

Go to the rendering tab in max, and in time output choose range and fill in your first and last frame there.
In render output, click on the "File ..." button give it a name, save as an avi, just use the codec it's on now and start rendering.

The "correct" way to kawk a smg and mg is exactly how he is showing it. with the hand, palm up. This way, if a round distcharges on accident, you don't end up with your thumb being brokeing to crap. And its easy to :vader::vader::vader::vader: a sten like that, at least with mine it is.

Also, are you doing this animation like this:

Goes to reload.
Pulls bolt back, and slots in the back to hold it open
extracts magazine
loads new one
slams knob to allow the spring to slam the bolt forward

or

Goes to reload
extracts magazine
Loads new one
pulls bolt back
lets go to allow it to slam forward

??

hey guys thanks for the post and this is the way he does it

lets go to allow it to slam forward


but i might make another one were he pulles the bolt bak to make suire the chamber is clear and then take out the mag.

and your idea of going to a gun store is good but i live in canada and there isnt a gun store that has any thing like that around here pluse i used my grandpas freiad;s sten that that was the way i pulled the bote back the fastis.

i will also come out with a Bren useing the way i reload it and the way my grandpa reloaded it cuz he was a Bren gunner.

doesnt the stens bolt remain in the back position after getting c0cked and gets released when u pull the trigger, so the bolt slams forward, takes a new bullet, fires it and gets blown back to stay in the c0cked position if u stop pulling the trigger? i always thought these old SMGs were working this way, i think its called firing from an open bolt

um alot of Stens did that but the one that i based this from workes this way :confused: and in alot of the movies u see the guy kack the sten that thats the only way that it wouled be posable so i did it this way lol and just to add alittel some thing cool lol.

ok, I have never played with a sten before, so if that is how it is done, do it that way. The AK has a pretty heavy charging lever so that is how I am used to c0cking it.

Also make sure to pay attention to the pitch and yaw of the gun when you c0ck it, it will not be noticable if you don't but will look a lot more natual if you do

The STEN bolt locks backwards. It fires from an open bolt. Therefore, the bolt SHOULD NOT go forward after being pulled back.

hey i will pull up the web site when i get home for ya and yes the fingers do tuch the bolt but that fram is a little messed up im still working on it as its my frist im still a bit krapey at it.

also the sten i was working off the bolt slid forwed and its from ww2 but maby its brocken in that way? but on the one i tried it slide forwerd but i will chage it so it stays back.

it looks good, however, i dont think it very possible. He is holding the clip, which is on the side. all the wieght is on the right side. it would be very dificult to do this, nevertheless co*ck the rifle at the same time. so, instead of just pointing out something that wouldnt work, il also add a way to fix it, here is what i was thinking:

simply have the other arm (the one thats holding the clip) reach over and co*ck the rifle, what the trigger hand is still in place

maybe have the rifle titled up a bit as well

...the Mk II sten isn't THAT heavy.. lol. I usually tilt the gun, so the mag is pointing down, and the ejector port is pointing up, then :vader::vader::vader::vader: the gun with my right hand. But I can see what your saying. It would make more sense when in fire fight, keeping your trigger finger ready, but if your in a rush, you just do what feels more natural.

one thing to look at, is that the left hand looks like it is pulling as well as the right hand. You might want to drop the wrist to make it look like it is pushing against the gun getting c0cked.

More animations (rotating the mag down etc.) makes it look nicer than just sitting there, and make sure not to over do it, enough for the subconcious is good enough ;)

WELL DANM HELL ! ! !!!

I was checking out my AK just now, looking at the internal parts see why it is firing weird lately and guess what... I c0ck it with my danm pinky !! Palm face up and everything. I just thought I used my index finger, so I tried it with my index finger and it just felt weird. I don't know why I thought that I did it palm down, I don't. Too funny. it was just so natural I never thought about it.

My bolt actions are definately palm down, but I grab the bolt with the knuckles of my index and middle finger, kind of weird, i know, but I use chopsticks weird too, and I can chop up food with them too, so 8p

This is me demonstrating a bump-fire on a Romanian AK SAR-1, I now own a Russian Izhmash AK-103 (7.62x39) (http://www.izhmash.ru/eng/product/saiga-m3exp.shtml) (like saying you have a "Colt" AR15 instead of a RockRiver)
It shows that I use my pinky, this was like 3 years ago.

hmm, u seem to have a big magazine, where do u live? i always thought in the US u arent allowed to use magazines that hold more than 10 rounds (if ure not in the army, or police or something else)

also the AK doesnt work the way the sten works, as long as ure comparing the way of cocking it, its ok, but the ak fires from a closed bolt

I live in Utah, but that doesn't affect what you were talking about. You are almost right, according to the ban made 10 years ago, you could not manufacture a magazine with more than 10 rounds. But if the magazine was made before the ban, you could use it (there was some other loopholes that allowed foreign countries, like Russia, to sell the larger sizes and sell them with the guns, but I am not sure the exact rules, had something to do with a certain number of parts being made or assembled in the US). The video I made was during the ban, but the magazine was legal under a loophole and it was a 40-round clip. BUT as of 2 weeks ago, the ban was lifted so you can use/make/sell any size magazine you want now.

The animation with palm up or down was my concern, but as I displayed in the video, I do it palm up, even with a strong spring like in the AK, so the anims done so far were correct and I was just saying I do it subconciously and just thought I remembered doing it palm down with the index finger.

just a guess... timing?

there is a certain amount of time an animation has to play, if you run over that time, it will snap back to the "idle" animation.

Try this:
open the QC file, look for the name of the animation you are having problems with, it will look something like this:

in the first line there is a part that says "fps 33". If your animation is clipping the last few seconds, you want to raise this number, try 37, or 40 (add 5 or so FPS to it). If you just want to see if that is the problem, try doubling the number, to like 60 (assuming yours is 33, which i doubt, just make it realy big to test it)

one thing you want to keep in mind is that if you have it too high, the guy will finish WAY before he is actualy ready and the player will be clicking the fire button before it is ready, going to low will play too slow and you will get your animation clipped.

Or were you refering to the sounds not playing? if so, make sure the sounds are in the correct format and that they are in the correct place, "weapons/rifleselect.wav" means it is in "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\swede@aol.com\day of defeat\dod\sound\weapons"

Be sure the file is named correct too

the end of the reload is spassy to the max, why didnt you speed up the rest of the reload so you would have more time?

and whats with this crap and him holding the mag, they didnt do that in the war, just the movies, ur sgt would kill you for holding it by the mag

and even when i slow it down to look, clipping city :(

hey thanks splinter and i plane to keep working at it and for editor there was people in ww2 that held the sten by the clip by grandpa saw people doing so. and since it my frist animation of corse its a bit :hamster::hamster::hamster::hamster:y and every thing is not perfict. but thanks for the critasiom any ways i will fix all or most of the problums in the next relese
