You spent a few hours making things blue?

:vader: Perhaps you are not as powerful as the emperor has forseen...

Those are called transparencies  And only the textures that need parts transparent are "blue" in his edited .wad

Ah. Perhaps he should have explained that for all the non-mappers out there, like me. :dog:

I like it. Would there be any way to make the building textures less heavy also?!

Just tried it ingame, when he saved the textures with less quality or whatever he did the transparencies got messed so what's supposed to be transparent is blue :| ladders, bushes, etc

:(

This biggest FPS killer on kalt is the area around the Allied courtyard... mostly everything else is fine. See below:

I don't know what your complaining about, Kalt is one of my highest FPS maps I can play: 80 - 100 fps.

:vader: Lies!
:PARROT: Yes.. you caught me.
:kitty: I'm sorry.
:mod: Yeah. I only get like 20 fps on kalt if I'm lucky.

No textures can help kalt. There are many models and ma isn't optimised for recent Half Life engine changes (where models are drawn using bouding box).
The only thing (client side) you can do is disable particles, unless someone could make fully compatible and low poly sandbags and barb wire replacements.

Oh fook.. :(

I actually like the blue. I get like 10 more FPS because of that easily rendered thing haha.

I like Kalt too. I use to have a config that let me run dod with constant FPS but I refomatted and no matter what I try have not been able to get it back to where it was :(

and it was config that still let the game look good too :)

no way, its gotta be the textures, a lot of times i get low fps just when staring at the buildings around the allied courtyard (no background or foliage in view).

also, i think another killer is just the hills in the background, maybe if you could make that like a crappy low quality grass texture that'd be great. or if possible, make those transparent so the hills just arent seen. :)

Hmm...Kalt is one of the few maps I have little FPS problems on. :kitty:

I don't think textures are the big FPS killers on maps, unless you have really low video memory. It's the map structure itself, and the models included that affect your framerate.

:(

But, like I said, I get terrible FPS sometimes even when one of the map models aren't in view. I get bad fps looking straight at a building, with the building covering my whole screen.

gellyfish, when you worked on the textures, did you just [try to :(] fix the bushes and trees, or did you also work on any of the wall textures?

I think the problem with low fps is related to the mb size of your card. My desktop has an mx440 128mb card and runs it at 30fps+ in the heavyhit zones but this laptop which has a raedon 9600 64mb runs it a lot lower :( Same with Charlie (I can't play that map on the laptop I get about 10fps on the beach)

Richy

I get 5 fps on charlie

I have a Radeon 9000 128mb pro...

Fuxxed up ay?!

i still own you all with my 32mb video card :D
btw, richy...that's horrible, i get better fps on charlie with my 32 mb with everything on high :o nvidia all teh way baby!

If you really really want to increase fps,

NULL the mapmodels
use direct3d instead of OpenGl
lower resolution
lower color depth
dont use MP decals
turn off voice chat
lower particle count
dont use detail textures
turn bullet ejects off
turn off weapon "bobbing"
join smaller games
dont use dynamic lighting

There really is no need to change the textures with all the things you can do, and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

So let me get this straight, textures have a big impact on your FPS? I thought it was just the polys that had to be drawed?

I've never had FPS problems with Kalt, not that I know of.
