Hi,

For a few days now I've been working on a map called dod_holland (of course not constantly, I'm pretty busy at the moment actually). I am not sure if there allready excists a map which has the same name but I will take my chances for now ...

I thaught this map to become a 'five-flag-map'. Very basic, 2 spawns, five flags and a 'centre' wich will have a few standard sniper and mg possitions. As you will see or have allready seen on the screenshots, the allied spawn will be in a somewhat naturural envoirement and will slowly advance in a ruined city. This is so because the allied forces have allready bombed the city and the task of the allied forces is to take the city and to eliminate the remaining axis forces. Of course the task of the axis forces will be to drive the allied forces back and to hold the city. If they will fail, this will have great consequences for the rest of the WWII! I'm not ready to develop the axis spawn yet but I'm planning to make it a ruined church, house or building. And ehr, oh jeah, I think it's going to be Brits vs. Nazi's.

As you also may have seen, I got somewhat inspired by dod_merderet, dod_jagd and dod_caen but of course I'm also trying to give this map a 'killertomato-twist'.

Well, I hope to have given you enough information about my [WIP]map, now I am awaiting your feedback.

yours sincerely,

killertomato

find a better floor texture, maybe some wood so the repetitiveness won 't be noticed, but that black and white tile just doesn't fit.

awesome pictures, as others may have mention, more rubble, but map looks awesome.

If your going in the direction of total destruction city, then ill add my 3 cents in on what id love to see.
*Passages between buildings, flags in some buildings on top story.
Well can't think of much else that u havnt added, k didn't help much did I.

Not to sound rude but your first pic that says lighting a la stephen king, in english means light of the stephen king. If your going for a french message its light du stephen king. lol just thought id add that, means nothing at all still great map.

The images are very well. Good work

To only say that you use too many textures of dod_jagd, which gives a similarity him that is not perhaps good.

Thanks for your ideas and yes, they did help. I will try to add more accesable houses (wich I like to see also) and the idea to add flags on the top of a / some building / s is great.

And no, you didn't sound rude at all. Thanks for the enlightning ;)

I hope to supply you with new screenshots next week. Thanks for the feedback and compliments for now,

Gijska makes a point there. No houses here with dark, grey rock-bricks. Most of the house are and were in WW2 made of small, red brick. Sometimes more grey or brown. Whatever. But not those huge bricks you see in france or so.

And yeah, i'm dutch.

:PARROT: Hi,

I know that this maps does not really look like the most of Holland, but that's something I will learn to live with. But you're absolutely right, it's not stereotype-Holland

I also don't know what's up with the dod_jagd skybox. Maybe it would help if I said that I use dod 1.0 as a source for my mapping activities.

Also I would like to say that more screenhots will come up next Monday. Be prepared :)

That's it,

Yes, as soon as I know how to be able to use more then 4mb of textures I will probably re-texture a few buildings. Good to know the textures of dod_escape have been used a lot lately.

The bridge looks really cool, is that a hl2 project?
Isn't downloadable btw.

Currently working on:

- retexturing part of the map, trying to give it more of a 'Hollandisch athmosphere' :)
- making it more war toren ;)
- creating the second half of the axis territory
- getting my map to compile as it should

NOTE: I do not have 'heaps of time' so it could last a few days before I'll come up with more news for as far as it concerns my map.

Until then :vader:

Hi,

due to problems with compiling I decided to declare this project 'dead'.
If you like you may download the .map version of dod_holland here (http://home.wanadoo.nl/atia/dod_holland.map)(1226kb).

When I have the time for it I will see what new project I could maybe start.

Cheers,

PS, use the following textures:
- dod_jagd
- dod_forest
- dod_caen
- hlbasics

killer tomato

Wow!

What kind of monsterpc do you have!
I had to wait at least a day or 1,5. Well, it could be the brushes I suppose ...

But what I'm more curious about: did you like what you saw?

tomato

IR
10-01-2004, 04:17 PM
overall brushwork design is prety good but,
its very sloppy

way to many weird brushwork, not using null on non see faces
brushwork that costs way more resources then it should.. just because the wrong method's been used

however

i think you havent been mapping very long yet right ?
so its prety good and ive seen far worse :)

a very important thing is to always work tidy.. think about the brushwork your making always use null .. then place your texture
think about your materials ... does it make sence to use this material here ? i saw yo use a woodfloor texture on a trim of a house that doesnt make sence .. rooftiles on vertical walls that doesnt make sence either .. if you spend time thinking about materials and look around you, then your half way there .. learning the right methods of creating brushwork is a process you learn it along the way :)

here's how your windows are done

You iNw folk never cease to amaze me :)

As for dod_holland I say it doesn't look bad at all, but it really doesn't stand out either. Of course I really can't judge without any knowledge of how it plays, but as far as looks go it looks fine, just unremarkable. Oh, and that fountain in pic2 is way overused in DoD maps :)

O.k now. Here's some news about dod_holland.
I am stopping my project for sure,

but

I will try to make another map with the same layout. For now, I will try to do some research for as far as that goes.
It's not impossible that the next map will have another name, that's yet to be uncertain.

Any news about my next project will be posted in another thread.
Thanks for your feedback and support!

cheers,
