Download: Basic Overview Pack

We've all seen the awesome new overviews for the 1.0 maps, but making one for a custom map is a lot of work. Waldo had expressed some reluctance to release the official layers he used to make them, so I thought that we should just make our own.

I've created the basic template used for any overview: gridlines, the coordinate labels, and the speckled backdrop. All are in seperate layers so it will be easy to customize.

Here's a pic:

Anyone who can host this file, please do so.

Download here: Overview PSD for Adobe Photoshop (http://members.aol.com/barkus109/overview/dod_overview.psd)

Also, anyone who can contribute, we still need a folded paper layer, background landscapes, the stamps ("allied translation" "classified" "top secret" "captured documents"...etc) and anything else that might help.

Nice work dude. SOOOO glad I don't have to do all of it by myself, I'll see what I can do about trees and letter stamps to add to it.. Lemme mess around with it some!

Heres a pic of my text, few mins in ps, problem is I lost the pass to my FTP so I can't upload it. So if anyone would be so kind, PM me and I'll email you the .psd. Peace!

I just copied the outlieing grid from Zalec.

Then filled in the middle with the PSP old paper texture, messed around with it till i got a decent colour. Then overlaid my map, and filled it in!

are there any rules you have to follow while making custom overviews? I tried to modify my dod_jagd overview to include some tactical positions, but it wouldn't load properly. And I have the green grid now.

there are certain limits and settings in which you must have.

you can ignore a lot of the stuff on there.

I am looking for the folds i have seen on some of the overviews. Not something that is really important just gives little better feel. If anyone knows where i can get them or knows of a good tutorial on how to make folded paper efect that would be great thanx

I dont know if this is the right place to post this question, but if someone could be nice enough to answer I will appreciate it greatly. My clan recently added Sora, and Subterania to our lists of maps. Unfortunately, im currently stuck in Hawaii and my internet blows. Here is the problem, it takes forever to load/download the maps in-game. In fact, it takes so long that the map cycles through and all of my progress is lost (which is usually halfway). Is there a way to download these maps on the internet and extract them somehow to a file in my DODS directory so that it will skip the downloading and go straight to "Recieving server info"/"Sending Client info"?

Also one more question while I have your attention. We are a realism clan who loves to have realism matches. Are there any good maps out there for realism matches? We love clearing houses. Avi is our default Realism map as of right now because of the excellent house (Apt) fighting and church. Are there any other good maps anyone prefers?

SunLits has a large map library with preview screenshots and reviews of the maps in their most up to date versions..
The maps download as an autoinstaller. Simply install the maps to your root dod directory. The reviews might also help you to decide which maps would be good for your server. Cheers
