[WIP] dod_crielen

The idea has been done before, but I kept it simple since it is my first map. Gonna add some craters and barbed wire racks later. And a dead cow or two for cover wouldn't hurt. :)

Ok, I took a nap or something, but here are some new screens.

Added craters and some barbed wire (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/HR-McMan/dod_crielen_b10019.jpg) that does damage when you run through it.

Long barbed wire for spawn protection (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v147/HR-McMan/dod_crielen_b10020.jpg) and to show why people are getting hurt when they run too close to the enemy spawn. Height of wire and double wire pieces make it almost impossible to shot into spawn, atleast with any accuracy.

It hurt the cow :P

Looks pretty good so far. I'm glad to see the dark lighting, and overall 3.1 gritty feeling returning.

After refinding this thread I made I got back into my map again, so I took out the mid trench and put a two-story bunker in its place.

Anyone? Any feed back at all would be nice. It's my first attempt at a map and would like to know how I did and how I could improve. Also, I have real high wpoly counts (1500 in some places). How could I lower them?

PS: I think it's wpoly...well, which ever one should not go above 1000 for best fps.

It help alot, i'm doing my first map also. I'm at my 10th version and still working with pen and paper. I encourage you to do so it's faster and you know where you're going :).

Meanwhile make test map to perfect your skills with the beast :p

Convert all the wood boxes into func_walls and use a texture named "null" in hidden faces of your map, that way the hl engine will not render them, which reduces your wpoly count.

I would have to agree, the red glow looks very TFC-ish.

And is it me or does it seem that these map pictures are very very dark?

Yes, it is supposed to be a night map, but I suppose it might be too dark. I was going for the lighting that dod_zafod has. Anyone know the value for the brightness on that map?

I never played TFC, but if it looks like one of its maps, is that good or bad?

TFC is great if you are playing a TFC map!! If you can add the mini-gun the Heavy Weapons guy gets, I can forgive the red glow.:p

I have looked at snapshots of Zafod and they are usually dark, too even though in game it looks fine.

Maybe you can turn your gamma up before you take the shot?
