How do,

Started working on these yesterday as my girlfriend is on her hols for a week and I'm bored to death.

Still needs alot of work like bits adding, parts reskinning, faces improving, I also need to get the transparancies to work on the unit patches and cap badge.

I'll also be making a kilted version with a bit of luck :p

If you need help on the reskinning of the heads, send me the .mdl (vandal@skullz.net) Great work, I might just use these over the ruskie pack I have installed...very nice. The sarge face seems less british and more...i don't know...french maybe. Perhaps its just the 'stash he's got going. The only one that I'd actually change because its no good is the sniper one. The other three are quality! especially the first one, looks quite british imo.

(edit: I do realize its the same one repeated with changes, but I also understand you're adujusting them, so...its just the coloring of the sniper guy I have issue with. Looks a little undead.)

Though speaking of kilts and folks not wearing full pants....I'd love to skin for a desert rats/DAK pack.

Well I'm currently learning skinning/meshing/animating so i'd like to do the faces myself, but as you can see they look a bit shell shocked/cartoony lol

If possible I might try and knock up some new death animations cos the old ones are a bit crap in some places (e.g. shot in the back does a really camp fall forward :p )

As for Desert Rats, they're on my list of things to do lol

No troubles, alot of the expression is measured in the eyes in playerskinning. You can't do alot with the mouth, or it will look strange, remember, in DoD their faces never change. So it may look cool to have a diffrent expression on then normal, but he runs, fights, and dies the way he's skinned. So keeping a sort of aloof/unemotional look on is the typical solution. Look at the RTCW textures, look at the default dod's, even look at my 87th inf. I'm sure you'll find ways to add variety without worrying about being to cartooney (they DO look good.)

I'm not makin the patches flat faces as the look like a bit of paper stuck on, i want them to stick out from the uniform as they're supposed. And the patch on the right is not the rank, its the regiment patch. The right arms shows the Black Watch, the left arm shows the division (4th inf in this case) and their rank. The badges the bren and sniper wear are distinction bacdges. The bren gunner has a driver's proficiency qualification badge and the sniper has a marksman proficiency qualification.

I see... but if you want to create the 3d feeling then or you gotta model it, or you need to break it in the middle, making it on a box won't give that feeling, infact it will create the opposite because at some angles you won't see it at all while the polygon count will be just slightly higher (not that you can notice it but... still).

they look nice ska - cept one guy looks like hes seen a ghost (the face painting is bland). and i think the badges stand out too much, and should be rounder and wrap around the arm more. looking good though

anyways i just tested teh kilt out and realized some of the verst from the kilt are assigned to the skeleton weirdly so when it goens into anim it looks alittle funky O_o

owell it was a 15 minute hack. you dont need to use it =P

I've got the kilts made but as you say the animations play hell with them so i've been messing with them to stop them getting ****ed up.

To be honest I dunno if I'm gonna bother finishing them, I'm in a general 'Can't be arsed' mood recently lol

lol I'll try and finish these up for the end of the week.

I've got a few version so far:

All with Tam O'Shanters
Sarge with peaked cap, sniper with helmet, other with Tam O-Shanters
All with helmets

I'll also do kilted versions of each of those if i can.

btw for the legs your going to have to reasign some verts from the kneecaps to the correct part of the bone. becasue as it is now it looks weird when it bens :x

also might wanna play around with the mesh for the legs cause it was all a 15 minute hack i didnt pay attention to detail, btw the leg skin is really a arm skin >_<

oh yeah also i noticed that one of teh verts connecting the leg to the boot isnt welded so in anim it like spikes out

bah i should have paid attention to detail =\ you want me to perfect it ?

You actually did quite a good job on the kilt mate. Took some meshing about but i got it working quite well now, cheers fella.

i ditched my attempt at one lol i started off making one from scratch but that sucked, so then i used a modified trench coat but that was worse lol

There's some minor clipping errors at the mo but I cant see anyway of solving that and you only really notice them on extra movements like spriting and that.

Should have som pics up soon, jus working on a plume for the tam o'shanter. i know they didn't wear the plumes into combat but i still wanna make one lol

Heres a little update on the bren.

The kilt needs reskinning (I could only find a crappy quality gvt tartan) as dones the skin. I also need to edit the tunic to be a cut away doublet.

I'll probably add other gear like Mills bombs too.

and the Black Watch is orignally Scottish. The Canucks jus have a Canadian Black Watch or Highland division.

@ Gab. As i said, i'm reskinning the kilt. The eyes, as I've always said, need redoing to get rid of the shellshock expression and I'm working on socks at the mo, they even come with the red ribbons! :p lol

To be honest I've been concentrating on my work with Over The Top (http://www.overthetopmod.com) recently and haven't even visted the DoD forms much. I haven't really played since 1.1.

Anyway, I'll try and get these sorted. Look back of them I've spotted a load of inaccuracies in them so I'll be redoing some little bits too.
