Major mapping malfunction

I apologize if this belongs in the Q&A forum, but I'm not entirely sure... anyway - straight to the problem

I've never encountered this before in all my mapping years.. its very wierd
__

Say I make a map.. everything is good so far so I decide to save.. file>save>blah.rmf

exit hammer..

I decide to open up blah.rmf and work on it a little bit more. HOLY CRAP THE RMF IS GONE!! ZIPPO!! ZILCH!! It just deletes itself after it saves! I've tested this time and time again, I save it to an .rmf, .map - it doesn't matter it just deletes itself!

I have uninstalled -> reinstalled hammer, problem still exists.

Possible reasons: i recently formatted my computer about 3 weeks ago, however, that shouldn't make any difference whatsoever.

I have spent time on many maps only to find them.. well.. NOT find them.

If anyone has any idea how this happened.. please reply

- Thank you!

I've had this problem with .MAP files only. RMF's seem to work fine for me. I don't know :( Try e-mailing one of the Valve guys about it maybe.

what version of Hammer are you using btw ?

3.4 :(
I'll try and email a few of them.

sounds like the rmf your saving is corrupted if it does it everytime .. it happened to me before but a restart of hammer was enough to solve it ..

i dont know if this will help, but make lots of backups of the rmf's, if it is indeed corrupted then theres something wrong with Hammer or windows.

After trying out different combinations and factors, I might have found the problem.. steam! .. sort of

I've noticed (in something slightly different) that when I export to .map the first folder that pops up is my email - SteamApps\blah@yahoo
notice the .com isn't present..

Now it just clicked - maybe hammer can't go through the email folder.. It might think that email@blah.com is actually a filename.. that might even effect other things.

But that won't explain when I saved the .rmfs onto the desktop I still had the problem.. or any other time I was able to save through my email folder..
confusing..

thanks for the help everyone
