Roof or not to roof

Ok I'm currently working on a map thats loosely based upon the Octagon in Dunedin, New Zealand (so if you're a kiwi or have been to Dunedin you will know what I'm talking about).

Now its obviously a city map, and I'm making it so its a nice destroyed city too. Now the big decision I'm making is weather I want to add roofs onto any of the buildings at all or just do away with the roofs and have destroyed walls so that you can look up into the sky.

So I was wondering what do people think would look best in a ruined city? roofs or no roofs?

Also theres a piccy attached of what my buildings look like with out roofs.

Looking good. Not roofs, but realistic stairs if possible.

well, you shouldnt have every building without a roof. Have some with partial roofs, with holes through them, and parts of roof collapsed in, work with wooden beams and supports going across teh tops of buildings as well. dod_Donner has a few good examples of how to do this well. gl mate :)

Well I've got some roofs, but theres only one so far that I am happy with, the rest of my buildings are either destroyed (without roofs) or I'm in the process of making them destroyed. I'll add some parts of roofs in but only if I am happy with them, I'm actually liking the look of the map with out roofs, even partial parts of roofs.

well the roof doesnt just disappear if you go "roofless" (which I think is appropriate for that screen) then put lots of support beams and/or rubble.

Looking nice so far on the architecture. Gonna need more pic if you want more advice ;)

And add railings to the stairs as well. Dont say they block movement! It's called crouch-jump :p

Well if you actually look at some bombed out buildings and fire gutted ones, the roof and support beams don't exist, just the outside walls, so its basically just a shell. I'm going to most likely add rubble inside every building aswell for appearances sake ;)
