How do I make weapon sprites?

I know I have to convert them to 256 colors and use HL Sprite Viewer, but how do I make specific weapon sprites for specific weapons?

I want to change my Kar98k Sniper rifle sprite to a G43 sniper rifle sprite, any tutorials on how to do so and what to name the file after?
