New US Infantry Model On The Way (more info inside)

Skullz_Vandal Brought a concept to me for a new allied player, anyway... that was the look he and also i wanted.
http://vandal.weruniq.com/models/winter.jpg

Coats? well... devin kryss ;]
The helmets are from nixon's Inf/Para pack which i love so much, the rest is my model edit, texture changing and total recoloring.
the pictures you now see are before some changes and the helmet won't be with camo (just for the sniper) and also his pants wouldn't be so greeny.

anyway, it's just an early product of my work from today... few hours of playing.

Thought and comments are welcome ;-]

Give the Sergeants those short and more tan coats in the pictures though.

Expert modelers/skinners, please help this man out. Finally, something to equally match DK's SSV4 Trenchcoats.

I'm glad to see that someone finally got around to doing this. It's been requested for a quite a while now, and fortunatly it looks like you're off to a good start! I do have some constructive critisism though. First of all, the coloring doesn't seem right on the pants and coat. The texture's on the coat look washed out, while the textures on the pants look too sharp imo. And it's hard to tell in the screenshots, but one of the distinct things i knowticed about the picture this is based on, is the large collar. Like i said, i can't tell if these have that or not from the screenshots provided. That said, if you released these today i'd use them. I just hope to see them get better. Good luck, and hats off for a great start!

Well, none of the guys in the picture have any kind of patch on their coats, so I just figured they didn't put patches on them.

VoodooChild
02-02-2004, 02:39 PM
this is an educated guess... I believe on the coat was a Division patch but nothing more.... IE, 101st would have the eagle patch, 3rd Id would have the blue/white box, etc.

Id go check out Call Of Duty's winter skins and see what they got on theirs. There skins are very accurrate to the real things. It'd also be a good reference for the green wool color.

It would be unlikely to see any markings sewn on overcoats, the coats were bulky and gave the unfortunate silhouette of the German overcoat, which means they weren't often used by frontline troops, as such, since any markings would have to be applied by the soldiers themselves, it's unlikely they would take the time. I would think you may see at least rank patches on Mackinaws, however, because those who used them (officers mostly) would have worn them more often.

Nice, just add some gear models to it (F1 nade, canteen, etc) and replace the helmet and face and you're all set.

Can you make a Brit-Inf version with those conscript hats and the signature Russian Fez hat (whatever they're called)?

Argh, lol. I thought they were Ruskies. :D

I hope your meshing the faces from RtCW, because that's the only one that will look faces look good. (Unless you're using Jed's mesh skins).

Mortar
04-01-2004, 01:40 AM
Thanks for the feedback ;]

at this point i would like to ask if you have any reference pictures or important gear/uniform info... it could help a lot.

anyway the faces are based on the RTCW model/mesh, im not going to use jed's because i simply don't think i can create a good face from scratch atm but the textures i use are not normal RTCW faces... they are the normal us infantry faces slaped on the RTCW texture with my further editing.
also i took some normal RTCW faces and edited them completely so they are almost as good as new and they do not look german at all.

glad to see ur still making em, looking good. i m sorta glad you removed the leaf helmet (pic 2) cuz of historical accuracy, but it looked so cool :(

well tbh when i first took the pictures it was too late and i was too excited :P but that camoflauge was planed to be only for the sniper, and the pictures i posted now and also from before are only of the rifleman class.

about historical accuracy... i know they had those kinds of helmets, a little diffrent then what i used in my old ones but more like jed's british paratroopers, i think i will make such thing for the sniper.

btw again i say... i really need reference pictures of paratroopers, especialy snipers.

Mortar, do you still need reference pics of what the winter soldiers wore? As far as backpacks, gear etc. I was watching band of brothers last night. The Bastogne episodes. Some of them had backpacks when they went on patrol, the others had sidebags slung around them. That would be so awesome if you gave the riflemen and support infantry backpacks. And the master sergeants and staff sergeants sidebags. When they went on patrols they pretty much wore they're normal paratrooper gear over they're trenchcoats. Riflemen had bandoliers slung around them, and guys with tommies had those buttpacks that held 6 magazines in individual pouches. If you'd like pics, i'll try popping the dvds in my comp and screenshotting. But i dunno, you may already have it yourself. :) One more thing....More facial hair! In band of brothers, guarnere and malarkey looked like freaking cavemen in bastogne!

Now... My ugly wannabe M43 fiting trousers suck so im going to reskin them, the hand model - not sure which one im going to use and what's left for me to do is 2-3 face skins, some gear skins/models, playtests and then im done.

You guys stop pestering Mortar. I know the models are great and you all want them out but remember us modellers are humans too!! Mortar is currently stretched between multiple jobs between DoD, TSV and other projects. He doesn't have time to always work on his player models. I'm in the same boat as him so I know what it's like.
So just be patient and he will release them ;)

NO! Get back into the basement! As punishment you shall get no hungarian sensual massage tonight.

Pretty big update, i finished the trousers and now what's left is skining a bag, fixing up some faces, fixing the bone assignment and some ingame testing to see if all goes well.

atm the bones are pretty messed because the M43 Coat is an external model that trigger made and i couldn't assign the verticies perfect so i decided to post a view from the back (again... :P) but this time in HLMV.

i can post more pictures if you are intrested but only from milkshape, i hope that soon i could start posting acctual ingame pictures after i'll assign those damn bones right, when that will happen the release will be closer than ever.

Looking brilliant Mortar, you've been working on these for along time and it's paid off. Are you going to release a default face version?
