map backgrounds ?

do u still use terraingenerator to make to the map backgrounds ?
or what do u use ??

There are 2 or 3 models for this objetive ( I can remember now ouitz_hill.mdl) But... hl1 is old so i wouldn´t use a terrain generator for the backgrounds...

A few solids with a low polycount would be easy to make and gives detail without overcharging the map (in r_speeds terms..)

i think there is something i misunderstod
isn't terraingenerator used to make backgrounds
like ava or jagd .... u know the environment map

You mean sky box ? Map->Map properties->Sky name ?

Most skies I've seen was created using Terragen or painted "manually".

Its really not that hard, just name each of the pictures as you see the other skies, each side named the same but the last two letters denoting where it will be positioned, ie skybk, skyft etc..

Terragen is very easy, cause you don't have to do much, just set some options and let him do the job. But you don't have to do it by yourself, there are tons of skies created by various users (and some in DoD folder too - dod\gfx\env).

Just a note.

Terrain Generator is different than Terragen.

One creates brushes for maps, the other creates environment maps or "skies".
