Edit: Sorry for resurrecting this age old thread, but I've been working on this map again. I might even release it this time. :D

Hi all, you probably don't know me but I've been mapping in the shadows for a year now (edit: allmost two now then), and finally I'm confident enough to release a preview of my latest project.
The map consists of bombed out buildings, with courtyards, around a big city street. The amount of capture points may still change, and a lot of detail still has to go into the buildings and spawn areas.
r_speeds range up to 800 w_polys + 9000 e_polys in spots at the ends of the street.

Scenario:

Somewhere in a big French city (I haven't decided yet which) autumn 1944.
The objective is to hold strategic parts of buildings that could be used to halt allied armoured advance.

Hope you like it

well from the first pic I can tell that it looks good, I can't see much on that last pic, you might wanna just attach ur pictures instead of a zip file, anyway, continue the good work ;)

the tree growing in the rubble looks kinda out of place, if it was there before the buildings where bombed, the bomb/buildings falling would have destroyed it, and it seems pretty big to have grown after the destruction :p

looks interesting though :)

Thanks!

It doesn't show in this pic but the rubble sort of ends just short of the tree. I thought It should be possible, but maybe I should rotate the tree a little, as though it's pushed over. Besides, it was a boring little corner. :D

looks ok .... a bit dark for my liking ... but I guess ingame it don't look so dark. Screenies have a habbit of making things look to dark.

I got a Noob question: If you use Steam ... how did you get the r_speed to show on the screen?

Okay :D

One more picture of the street and the axis building with tolchok's great hanomag model, and hk's destroyed panzer IV reskinned by yours truly.
the forum told me 450x450 was the max size, so if you can't make it out:

w_polys read 832, e_polys 2854

(No web hosting though, sorry. I'm an inter-noob)

looks quite cool.
one advice though: get rid of the photo rubble.

Why? It has to have all kinds of debris in it, wood, stone, anything. I couldn't find a lot of textures like that.
Of course, feel free to use whatever magic is in your power to make me such a texture. ;)

there's one of mine in glider/flugplatz that could possibly be a good fit. Photo rubble usually has these huge black spots in between all the chunks of stone and wood which create this, how some of you describe it, "out of place" look.

Makes sense.

thanks again, I'm definitely going to try this one.

Looking very good, reminds me of devestation.
I like the atmosphere in the pictures.

it looks really cool, kinda reminds me of ghost recon's destroyed citys, all i think you need to work on is getting the textures all to work togeather better, ie some parts of the map using the light/non destroyed textures some using the dark, or all one or the other mixing them up can ruining the feel alittle.

nice crater btw.

Kleinluka already mentioned the rubble texture needing to change; I've now taken the lighter one and blended in some chunky bits from the dark one. It works wonders, except that there are a lot of red brick buildings and no red stuff in the rubble, but I'll work it out.

btw thank you all for the supportive comments.

Sorry for resurrecting this age old thread, but I've taken up working on this map again. Updated information on the map is on the first page, as is a new picture.
And here's another one.

Your building structure is looking good. The map, hm, cant describe it, but it feels like a war is going on.

and im not liking the tree there either. I would either find a smaller and thinner tree, or get a dead one. I know flo has a few good trees that would fill that void easily.

This is the street the map is named after.

Thanks, and thanks for the textures too. I didn't use your yellow wallpaper though, although I did use one of your wallpaper textures for a carpet. I'll concoct an overview some time this week and post it.
