I love when people say they "reskinned" something, when all they did was take a skin that somone else (in this case, my skin) did from scratch, and changed the brightness/contrast on the skin.

Not to be sounding like a jerk, but 90% of people don't read the readme files, and all things assuming, by looking at the picture and the credits on the DoDEC, the guy writes it off as his skin entirely.

Oh well.

i wrote up the readme and i wasnt sure if it was counted as a reskin or just a recolor or whatever... so sorry about that. i did credit you on the v model and im sure everyone knows that it is just a blackened version of your reskin since they are both on the editing center.

I know it's in the readme, it's not a big deal.

I'm just saying by the description in the picture "Reskinned by Pvt. Malarkey" and the credits in the DoDEC "Pvt. Malarkey, DoD Team", it sounds like he did the skin himself.

People need to realize that adjusting the brightness and contrast of a skin is not a reskin, it's a recolor. Same as adjusting the hue/saturation on a skin. Just a recolor.

A reskin is a lot of work, making your own textures, not editing the brightness and color properties. Big difference. One takes hours or days, while the other takes five minutes.

ill remember that next time and i should have written on the collage "blackened by pvt. malarkey" instead of reskinned. when i emailed dodec i told them to make the title of the file blackened m3a1 greaser but they made it look like it was his reskin on the site. anyway, what do you think of the blackened models?

It's no big deal! Don't worry about it.

As for the recolor.....I don't think it looks very good. The problem with just lowering brightness and upping the contrast is you just get a slew of blacks that run together, losing all the detail.

In my opinion, the best way to darken a skin is to open up the skin in photoshop, create a new layer, make the layer all black and set it to 'soft light' and adjust the opacity until it looks how you want.

That way it just overlays the black over all the details in the skin and you don't get any smeared black areas/high contrast areas like there are on his recolor. :)

Using the method I described above, it took me five minutes to do this (notice the comparison and how the contrast on his does not show up when I did it like I described :)

No worries, Canuck. Like I said it's not a big deal, I was just clarifying.

But thanks! :)

seriously walker, this is nothing lol shouldn't even count as anything lol like dillinger said, anyone could do this in like 2 minutes

meh, that's what he asked for (specifically just a dark version of yours) and it seemed that no one would help him and i was bored so i did the dew with mountain dew. didn't even meen for it to come out like this :\ and i thought it was crappy and thought it was gonna be for his own personal use

Yeah I agree, this hardly deserves a new release thread.

I know you mean well Walker, but if its a simple skin recolour like this, it doesnt require to be re-released

sorry, i only sent it to the editing center to get it hosted since my uploading site kept timing out... i only made a thread in releases because i thought everyone would be excited to see a blackened greasegun like this one... especially with all the greasegun models included (dont see that too often) so my bad. sorry malarkey, it probably would have been a good idea to tell you first, lol.
