|REL|Xhairs - Custom and Info on how to make them Dynamic

Ok, we all want custom Xhairs, so here are some that work Dynamically that I made.

There are limitations to what we can do.

The horizontal line can only be 10x3 pixels and the vertically can only be 3x10 pixels. The horizontal is repeated in the HL engine from left to right (see red dot for ref and the "green area is usable") and the Vertical is repeated from top to bottom. The center dot can only be 3x3 pixels (see XhairsTemp for example)

here are my xhairs...

Thanks, I am glad you guy's like them :)

Just rename the file to dodcross.spr and place it into "\Half-Life\dod\sprites", butback up your original first!

Have fun!!

Yeah no kidding huh StormLord, if they were going to be enabled anywhere this would seem like a good place  .

gg on the research and the xhairs lol it is pretty damn limiting atm, but i think u came up with a good variety with what u had to work with. If i am motivated i may try and figure out how to "crack" them, but if u or anybody else figures it out please do tell.

Storm, would you be so kind to make me a cross like the default HL cross? but:
- a one pixel central dot
- dynamic

just like your t8, but with lines a little tighter to the central dot ad a little longer (one pix longer)
and all red.
I would be grateful! thx!

does editing the sprite text files change any of the area useable?

How exactly did you make these new crosshairs? What program did you use? I tried out no.8, and while it is not exactly what I'm looking for, it is very good.

Thank you, they are real nice.

And I like the color, as I am green/red color blind it's hard at times impossible for me to see the X-hair on certain parts of the map.

Thank you. again.

Excellent work T-8 shall be my new crosshair.

I like how the red does not interfere with aiming as it is almost unseen when your focused.

Awesome! Thanks a lot. I've been messing around with my own ideas, as well as modifying your T8. In dod 3.1, I made a crosshair that was dynamic when moving, but when at rest, it was only a dot on the screen. I'd prefer to not have the x bits around the center dot while standing still. That's what I'd like to have for 1.0, but so far, I don't know if it's possible.

sorry for the late reply. Just downloaded, not tested in-game, but you even included a pic... well I Like it, it's very similar to the default...but it won't occupy such a big part of the screes as the default. THX!

just tested...IT'S GREAT, a must have...

Now...if you have time, i have a request for a firend of mine... the t10 cross has the lines splitted in 2 parts, right? can you delete the external part in order to make the cross smaller?

Thx, you're doing a great job!

Do you mean something like this

Well, if that is what is wanted, I can't do it yet.. the vertical and horizontal are not mirrored and requires changing your Hud.txt file to make that work. Let me know if its still wanted (if my diagram makes since), I am working on the hud.txt file for altering the Xhairs even more.

.....I still dotn really get it. Ive been making TONS of crosshairs for beta 3.1 but now..the format is baffleing

05-10-2003, 02:09 PM
i edited the hud.txt and its not messed up i dont kno how. CAn some1 post the original lines for the crosshair.. near the bottom or the while file would be great. (i managed to get a nice horizontal and vertical bar with 2 half circles either side of the dot in the middel but that portion keeps ending up to the bottom left of where it should be .. :(
