switch the fire mode!

i d like to see the ability of switching the fire modes on some rifles that could fire semi auto, too (the mp40 for example couldnt, but the fg42 was able to fire semi auto).
just imagine: you are runnung across a map with your fg42 and see an allied soldier thats very far away. you go crouching aim for his chest or at least in his general direction, but you are a little bit nervous (its an exciting game!) so you pull the trigger but your gun spits out three bullets and suddenly points at the sky, because you didnt manage the recoil. at this point it would have been useful to switch to semi auto, so u could be sure to fire just one well-aimed bullet that hits! dont you think so?

i know u can tap your mouse shortly, too, but you are so f*ckin nervous (i already wrote this)....

First off, relax... Second, save a moderator some trouble and copy your text to a safe file, hit the edit button on your first post in this thread and at the top will be a box that you can click in to delete it, then hit the button on the right. Post this in suggestions and see what people say. I for one, agree with you, but most people will just say "If you can't fire one round at a time, then yo're a n00b!" Ignore them. Realism is good ;)

indeed. and especially with that fg-42, in automatic mode it fired from an open bolt, hence a loss of some accuracy, but in semi mode it fired from a closed bolt, so that would make longer ranged shots a lot more feasible, especially if you were using the scoped one. although a problem is presented with the fact that secondary fire is already used to either deploy the bipod or zoom in. perhaps that's why the select fire feature was omitted. however, this would still be possible with the mp-44, as i believe that was select fire too.

You could select fire modes in dod b1.x, and it led to a lot of bugs and problems. One of which was being able to fire off unlimited ammo that didnt do damage.

Lol, would be great for covering fire, though, huh? ;)

Ah, plenty of other mods have gotten this right, The Specialists comes to mind. There's absolutely no reason not to add it... unless they just don't feel like it, I guess.

The BAR had two automatic rates of fire, 450 and 650.

hey kamikaze bob, i think u couldnt change between two fire rates ("fast" and "very fast"), u could choose any firerate between 450 and 650 rpm. the BAR is gas-operated so the rate of fire depends on how u adjust ur gassystem. so i think, if u had a bar, u could choose between single shots and full auto, but u could also change the gassystem so ur autofire-rate became faster (if u like an uncontrolable monster that scares the nazis) or slower (if u like well aimed shots that pierces the germans).

i also played "the specialists", so i know switching the fire mode is possible in hl. u can bind other keys to "switch fire mode" it hasnt to be a mouse key.

Well you're right and wrong. The original version of the BAR had both semi- and automatic fire, and a later version introduced during or just before the war had the two automatic modes. It required no adjustment of the gas system, just a flip of a switch. The designers definitely had their act together and knew it would be ridiculous to have soldiers running around fooling with their gas systems all the time.
