Did any of you guys ever make any training maps?

Or, know where I could get some.

Maps to practice sniping, mg'ing, nadding, etc?

Its got:

Nades
Bazooka
Close Range
Dueling Pits

and Teleports to get to specific areas.

Made one some time ago...
If you download (http://perso.wanadoo.fr/kruger/maps/boot_camp.rar) it you'll see there are 4 maps. Just launch boot0.

Movement/explosives
- jump
- crouch-jump
- crouch
- plant TnT
- sprint to pass a road covered by a MG.

Static and moving targets
- the rifles
- the Sub Mashine guns
- the sniper rifles
- the Mashine Guns
- the pistols
- the bazooka at 3 ranges
- the bazooka on moving tanks
- destroy 2 MG nests with grenades

Destroy a moving tank with a bazooka is something you will make during training only! btw take care of the last one it's using its MG. :D

I dunno what sense it would make to practice sniping and shooting on a training map when you can just as well play on a public server and practice there...

Well training maps have the purpose to train. Didn't you see some pure new players online? "How do I plant TnT? Answeeeeer!" That's why i think all new players to this game should train at least one time on a train map -preferably an official one made by an official mapper. The CS team made that, it was very nice (i had to mention CS, klein).
On the other hand, train in single player avoids you some lamers and mean people who ruin the game. Some would tell you to use some bots to train. But, of course, multiplayer is the most interesting aspect of the game.

Or they could read the manual that comes with the game, which explains all the stuff you need to know.

A good training is to install sturmbot and lan a while in the official maps, that's the best training you'll get. Either that or 1v1 with a friend and testing ranges, skills etc.

I can't get custom maps on Steam.

Do I just make a map folder called "maps" in the dod dir?

Yep.

Steam\SteamApps\[Your email]\Day of Defeat\dod\maps

also make dod\sprites, sound etc. folders for different files.

That should work.

DoD could definately benefit from a training map that comes with the game.

BTW, those of you with copies of Oposing Force... ever notice that if you use secondary fire on the teleport gun imediately after you pick it up, that you're transported to the Half-Life training course? Specifically the part where you have to jump through the pipes. It's pretty funny... there's a couple of aliens that try to attack the holographic instructor.

This is another idea where if someone came up with a high-quality training map it might make it in a future release...I'll test out a few of these...the one in MOHAA (I think it was MOHAA) was pretty good. The opposing force one was good too.

You could have a single map set with triggers and whatnot to allow both American and German players to train w/their specific weapons and weapons from the other side...trickey...or you could mirror two training ranges in a map with seperate spawn points...one setup like a german training area and one like a US tent-city firing range. Hrmmm...might be a nice project to try.

I will be changing and recompiling my map and renaming it....

See how people like it... I need to do some vis blocking in it so it runs a bit smoother... its well layed out etc :D

Even has offices hehee

I tried both and really liked boot. You did a good job with that, and I wish we could see a few more maps like these.
