Helmets stay on?

Is there a way to make a soldier's helmet stay on instead of it comming off when they are hit in the head. I ask this because I have Russ.Conscript's high rez Fallschirmjager skin and the helmets do not come off the skin itself and it looks silly when the default helmet comes off. Thanks in advance!

Make the helmet part of the body mesh and use an empty entry for the helmet subgroup in the QC.

Aren't the helmets seperate models? Cause if they are you could just copy/rename the null.mdl to replace them.

I tried to delete the helmet_axis_para.mdl but it just created a new one in its place. So I can rename it to something else and get them to go away?

You can't, besides, helmets shouldn't stay on, otherwise you'd break your neck.

Well then helmet is actually part of the skin so they dont come off when you are hit in the head so it looks stupid when the default helmet does. I will try and rename it.

I'm still waiting for the helmet to come off during diving(mid-jump prone, but Mugsy's saying it's going to get cut in 1.1) or large falls.

Most models like that come with empty replacement models.

If not then there's probably a null.mdl somewhere that can replace the helmet.

So I need to copy and rename null.mdl or rename the para mdl? Sorry Im a bit confused.

find a file in your models folder named "null.mdl"

copy that

rename the copy to "axis_para_helmet.mdl"

I did that and the helmets still come off.

copying the null.mdl file just hides the helmet that is thrown off the model onto the ground.

What actually determines the head gear is the helmet subgroup in the MDL file. The first two entries are the helmet/cap option, the other are blank and what it switches too when the helmet is removed for the "blown off" effect.

The only way to make them stay on is to do as you have and use null.mdl but also to decompile the MDL and re-assign the helmet/cap mesh to the body mesh for the relevant class.

So for example, the mesh for the MG jacket you would have to add the helmet too. Its not hard however its not easy if you've not worked with models before.
