At first it takes a rediculously long time, but once you finally get everything going, it works fairly well. As for custom content, you just have to copy over the directories from your original installation into the steam dod folder.

Steam deleted my DoD directory when I installed it...I had DoD retail.

:( where is the steam dod folder? "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\(user name)\day of defeat\dod"?:( if so, that doesn't have all the files, but i'll shove it all in there anyways

The folders aren't there because they are all in the dod cache file in the root steamapps directory. Just copy over the model, sound, sprite, maps, and gfx folders and all your custom stuff will be there. If you had steam delete your old install, you'll have to reinstall all your custom stuff from scratch.

Hey,

Why the hell did they go and change it all.

If you are getting about 20KB/s and that must be a broadband connection I don't even dare to think what my 56K will get.

Most likely 0.05KB/s.

I've been screwin this pig for 24hrs and it's time to give in.

What a stinkin mess by a lot of high paid experts:rolleyes:

Never have used WON to play and I guess I won't be starting now. Don't guess i'll miss it huh?

There's a lot of work that needs to be done to get this abortion to fly.

This is how custom stuff works...

Steam\SteamApps\*youraccount@whatever*\Day of Defeat\dod

and then it just works like the old way, but all you have to do is make your own folders.

Example:

Steam\SteamApps\*youraccount@whatever*\Day of Defeat\dod\models

or \sounds or \maps

etc.

NOTE:

Do this AFTER you have downloaded dod and then close steam. Then restart steam and play dod with your new customs installed.

It means that if you dont have Steam you can forget about being able to play after a couple of weeks.

What do you mean by it locked up? mine has had the Preparing to play Day of Defeat screen up for a while now(not the downloading stuff one).

As for custom stuff, I guess it's a good thing I have copies of my models, sound, gfx and sprite folders stored outside all of my HL directory. Makes it easier to transfer that stuff in once I'm able to play DoD hehe

OK, I havent browsed the forums in a little over a week now...WHAT THE HECK IS STEAM!!! Im getting a little antsy since I have no clue whats going on right now with DOD and all my custom stuff, I just know that I cant get DOD to run for crap right now and with my 56k, Im dreading another download just to play DOD...Can someone explain what steam is, what its for and why the heck we are using it?

Anderson

you need steam to play half-life come the end of next week (not this week) because won is going down. and instead of letting steam convert the files download bittorrent and then download the gcf files from someones website its alot faster.
To use custom stuff open the steam folder then steamapps folder and open the folder with your e-mail addy then dod and stick your custom stuff in there just like you would normally.

OK for custom models, as I understand....go to ur steam folder. then look for a file called steamAPPS then open the file that says ur email adress, then open up dod, then models, now place in ur models BUT DO NOT LOAD IN UR p_models!!!!
