DoD Editing Center.....

You know, I made a special POINT of requesting that my models not be hosted anywhere but dodsupply and editor321, where they were being hosted at the time of release.

HOWEVER it seems that Dod Editing Center has gone ahead and hosted the files anyway. Not only that... but they spelled my NAME WRONG!!!!!!!!!!

I don't care much for the site but atleast I respected it, but I find the lack of respect on their part disheartening.

Atleast if you're going to host my file without permission spell my damn name right.

Im sorry you feel that way. If you would have just sent us an e-mail, we would have removed the file without hesitation. However, since you didn't think about that and decided to make a complete ass of yourself, as well as insulting my site, I am not going to remove it. However, since I am in a somewhat good mood today, I did fix your name :)

LOL. I get the same problem all the time.

The number of sites hosting downloads of my HLMV is a pain as I asked not mirror it but to link to the download. Only reason being so that people will always get the latest version.

Mind you I can sympathise with sites that need content so having as many downloads as possible is good.

On the name front, I've given up. I think thanks to Marzy the realease of HLMV was the one time I've seen my name correctly credited on forums.

I usually get various combinations of TrpJed, Jeed, Jod, Ned, etc.

Yes that's a valid point Editor, but this thread was completely and utterly useless, he would have beenalot better emailing either Jac or I...

And what difference would it make if we were hosting them, we are helping to conserve the bandwidth of all of our sites by insuring an equal d/l priority between all of our sites...

No, I talked to editor first who suggested e-mailing but since there are others in what's left of the MSA community who feel quite the same way I decided that it needed to be brought to public attention.

Also not to mention I didn't say "Canuck is stupid" or anything because I really don't have a problem with the people. If my release post was read in the first place than it wouldn't have happened.

It's a respect issue.

Respect for what, It's not like we got a leaked copy of these, we like many other hosts, have to wait till a release...And honestly, if you have a good reason why it shouldn't be hosted, a GOOD reason, then I might take it down...but then that'll be your loss...

I asked. I asked nicely. Go ahead and let me suck up your bandwith now but there will be a eula included in the future.

As for 'It's a good day so I'll fix your name...' Thank you so very much. I am so glad that you felt it necessary to honor me with that bit of attention. I'm sure you're very busy and your work is quite time consuming.

Just a reminder that it's the custom work of people that your whole site is dedicated to and hosts. Without the people who make them there wouldn't be a site.

Yes but without sites, like ours, Editor, Pokemart etc...The artists wouldn't be able to express their work to the community, so please show us some courtesy, we felt your release was something the whole community needed to have, so we hosted it...But fine, it's coming down...

You should be happy that dod editing is hosting your work because then u will get more downloads cause more ppl now visit dod editing rather then Editor321 since he left.

Editor left MSA community but he didn't leave tottally. I guess that got lost in translation because im working on his new site as we speak. However if I was interested in downloads I wouldn't have created the skins/model. I do it for myself really.

Canuck, I do show courtesy and I have done my fair share of work spreading the word about DODEC. The only thing that got me mad was that I had simply requested it not go up there because I wasn't sure if I was finished with them yet. The PMs were getting annoying and I was enjoying the fact that I could do something without people knocking down my door so I tried a "limited" release.

I appreciate your motion. Thank you.

Just to finnally kill this thread, you speak the truth, but at the same time he said for no1 else to host it, being third parties in these communities, we should follow the author (first parties) wishes like an EULA of some sorts, but not to that extent.

Please take note that being a third party its not my problem, this was really between you and the author.

And as a closing, the whole community had it, it was on my site

I understand where your coming from Cpt.Osseus, but it's a case of live and learn. If you release anything on the Internet for free, then no matter what you put in the readme, don't expect everyone to stand by it, because it just does not work. Once you give it away it's no longer yours, it's everyones, although you will always be the cerator. The simple way to get around this problem is not to release anything if it bothers you that much.

What bothers me, is when someone takes your work hacks it in some way, then releases it without given credit to you, now thats a real pisser.

It's sad but true.

I like to see my work hosted all over the place, as long as the right credits are given. I know more peeps have a chance of trying out my work, which can only be a good thing, if it makes some happy.

It's a case of just coming to terms with the truth.

Marzy, I think you got the story wrong...

We hosted his recent player pack...We always include credits, why wouldn't we we only hosted it...Nothing chnaged with his release, he was steamed at the fact that we hosted them when he asked no one else but those specified have them...

No i'm not pointing any fingers here Canuck, i'm just saying from an observation point of view, that no matter what you put in a readme, you can't expect everyone to follow what one might request, because it does not work.

I personally see no problem with you hosting his file with credits.

I'm saying he needs to face upto the truth and live with it, or don't release his work.
