[MWIP] new US paras

08-28-2003, 04:53 PM
I really like how the old jumpgear equipment looked, so I decided I wanted to use it somehow and so I did in an Allied paratrooper set I'm working on right now. Here's an extremely small pic (sorry, I promise from now on no more of that small crap):

I thought it would look cool if he had a chinstrap so I added one onto him. BTW this is by no means the final way he will look, I plan on adding things like a US armband, new faces for each, proper insignia, recoloring stuff, not all the guys are gonna have the rolled sleeves, and other stuff so bear with me. I'll have these done maybe by this weekend(fingers crossed). In the meantime, got any ideas I can incorporate into this or change?

Looks bloody good so far mate, love the chin strap.

For a laugh you could always give one of them a leg bag lol :D It would probally look pretty cool if you gave one of them (probally the sarge) a satchel for his maps or mabye a compass on a string around his neck. A switch blade sticking outta his boot would look cool too.

Keep up the good work, I'll definately be keeping an eye out for these.

me likes a lot, especially the idea of the map bag ;) but any ways it really does look good, add some dirt and some face paint cause chances are if they had jump gear on they wouldva prolly been in one of the jumps (duh now i just sound dumb). But add a bunch of cool little things, and i got just one request, PLease make one of them ( mabye the garand) an officer of some sorts, mabye a LT. Keep up the good work.

It would be nice if it were a bigger picture, but they look great so far. Looks like I have new Paratroopers to look forward too :D

Yeah, what he said. I didn't realize how odd it looked until foley mentioned them.

I like the map bag too - I'm definitely gonna try to out that on at least one of the guys. The rolled up sleeves - I just wanted to use them on the SMG guys just to break up the monotony(they would all basically look the same torso wise if I don't leave them in); but would you guys prefer them to just all be longsleeved?

For normal play too - no prob I'll release that in the same release thread. I'll go ahead and make the garand guy an officer too. Anyway, I gotta work on textures for this(and those faces I said I was gonna do for Ska's Russian pack), but hopefully I'll have a new pic or two for you guys to check on by tonight.

Awsome, will these be 101st ? Since most are, or 101st and 82nd ? And yes, i think sleeves down is better. :D Good work.

hey guys, here's a little progress report on what I've been able to do today: I went ahead and did some recoloring, added the armband like I said I would, and I hacked together a mapbag/satchel. Just a quick question, where do you think I should put the mapbag? I was personally thinking in the free space around his right hip and then I just swing the strap across the jumpgear to his left shoulder. Any suggestions on this?

Anyway, what would a progress report be without a progress pic? Not much, so here it is:

The badging is from 17th Airborne. I figured the Screaming Eagles and the All Americans were pretty well represented with what was out there already. Oh well, with you guys' help I think I'm on track for a weekend finish followed hopefully by a release :D.

Hmm, I prefered the original color on that yellow vest thing.

08-29-2003, 08:38 PM
I saw them yellow like that on this one action figure, but yeah I guess the original color fit in more with the color scheme that I'm using on them right now. I'll try to put a pic with the original jump jacket when I can(right now bro is playing NS on my comp)

I got lazy and decided to use some of the faces from my armor set, but I did make a couple new faces. Also finished putting the badging on each of the guys, the garand is a 2lt and the mg is a tech sgt. Here's a pic:

It is in working condition, but a couple things remain. First, what color should the jump jacket be(brownish or yellow)? Second, where should I put the mapbag, and on whom should I place it(or should I just make that compass instead)? Also, I obviously gotta write credits and what not. When those questions can get resolved, I should be able to release these shortly after. Also, like I said before, I'd be happy to release a normal play version at the same time.

Very nice. Put the map bag on the Officer and the Greaser. Comapss to the officer and the Staff Sgt. ( you just gotta mix it up a bit) Those look really good. But the map bag near the hip with the strap going across like you thought before.

*drools* Very nice, I can't wait for these.

08-30-2003, 05:15 PM
hehe the beard guy was for a little variety but I guess he doesn't fit in with the rest of the guys. The face I think still looks good, but I guess I can just dirty him up a bit and use that as one of the faces for I was doing Ska's Russian pack. I'll replace his face with something as nice(but no beard).

The pants, yes they are slightly baggy. I kinda did them that way so that their visual outlines would have more of an organic feel(curvy, hourglass outline as opposed to just straight, neat outline). That's also why I went with the darker, more solid looking colors where I could. To me, I kinda like it that way, but if you guys want that changed to straight I would have no objection to changing it(after all, *ding* I'm at your service :)). Anyway I'm still experimenting with that map bag. So far, with the bag on it makes the equipment look a little overcrowded, so maybe I might try taking some stuff off to make it fit or something. The compass, I'm gonna go make that in a little bit and try that out. I'll have pics up when I have something new that's signifigant on my hands.

08-30-2003, 10:54 PM
arrggghhh...that map bag is not really working out that well. I've tried positioning it so many different ways, and it is still making the guy I put it on look way too overloaded in my opinion. The compass on the other hand, after looking at the result I have to say that Ska had a really good idea on his hands when he suggested it. Anyway, I went ahead and put that compass on the 2lt and the sgt, plus I shaved the beard off the ssgt. Obligatory picture:

I think this is pretty much release ready, what do you guys think? Any final suggestions or ideas you'd like to see in this set before it's released?
