Beach Idea, pls discuss

I been thinking of this beach idea... it could be in dod, but proberly better in dod2.

anyway, i think beach maps are hard to pull off, and possibly the hardest type of map to make, so i think this idea might make it more realistic. there are 2 variations of my idea. but both require a map hard for the allies, like overlord.

1. have the allies start from boats, and have extra "bot" like players, such as info_allied_grunt and have scripted secquences so they run onto the beach and can fire at the bunkers etc, but they are not allowed to move off the beach, this would give the axis mg's more targets to kill, and make it realistic, since it will be hard for the allies any way. there would be about 20 extra grunts.

or

2. basically the same as idea 1 except the extra grunts cannot shoot, just ruch onto the beach.

i like idea 1 more, but make it so the grunts arnt too good.

this may strain ur pc a bit, thats y i said it may be better for dod2, but any way....discuss!! :)

I don't know if they can actually fire since they were designed for the movie-intro's on some of the new maps in 3.1 (Glider, Hedgerow, Krafstoff). Still it would really add to the ambience, go ahead, give it a shot. I don't know if they will actually move, you might have to assign some sort of path or movement, I don't know exactly how they work. Very difficult I'm assuming.

I'm in the process of making a beach map atm, I like the idea of having bots running onto the beach and firing upon the bunkers etc for ambience. But with the current HL engine and its limitations with wide open areas I don't think this would be flash on it. The more things in a wide open area = big fps hit and people with low end comps own't like it one bit. All we'd hear is one rant after another from it.
HL2 on the other hand this should work rather well I'd imagine, I'm not sure weather I want to release my map on the current HL engine or wait to release it on the HL2 engine if and when dod2 comes out :D

i like the charlie map but the beach shoud be a lil bit longer ...longer to run makes the map a lil bit harder

i thought of this before and tried it before but its not possible on hl engine but hl2 it should be fine...

and guys i would finish my beach map for dod but are making the beach map for "the last great war" mod for hl2.

yea, i thinking about these lag stuff. and HL2 may have better grunts and stuff, that could shoot. something the dev team can code into dod2, waldo, what do ya think?

you should know if its possible already if you're working on the last great war mod for hl2 :p

Wouldn't your team be able to tell you weather it is or isn't?

HL2 will open many new doors and oppurtunitys to the mapping community. The current Half-Life engine has been streched so far and been explored and crafted for things that we could not even imagine when the game came out almost 5 years ago.

Mapping will enter a new age along with HL2 and its possibilities.

However, ideas mean nothing. Create it and then tell/show us it.

/me shivers thinking about all the possibilties.

The bot idea is possible, but you'd need a DoD bot... (Sturmbot for example).... Delete the waypoint file for the beachmap, and make new waypoints, but none off of the beach... Then once in-game, you can make it so the bots don't shoot... It's not exactly a map feature, but it can be done...
