[WIP] Winter Fallshirmjager

I know that there's not much of a demand for Winter Fallshirmjager, but I wanted to do some anyway in case we ever get around to having map specific skins.

It's nothing spectacular, as skinning player models is a little out of my league (weapons seem to be my forte :)), but I wanted to try it out anyway, since I've never skinned a play model. They're turning out pretty good. Far from being complete though. Just thought I'd let some of you see what's going on, so I could get tips since I'm not too good at skinning player models.

These are based on Russ's hi-poly Axis Para's.

I never thought I'd see the day where I gave advice to one of the greats, like you, D!

Looking good, considering Playermodels are not your "forte"

Look at the refrence pic very carefully and then using a small brush on burn mode in photoshop, make some creases and folds in the matierial around where his elbows, knees and wherever else the pic shows. Take your time.

Also, you might want to add wear-and-tear. Try using some brushes with alot of transparency, maybe only 22 percent veiwable, and use browns and reds to get dirt and blood stains on him.

Also, I'd advise to reskin the faces, EVERYONE appreciates reskins when there are brand new face skins. It makes the skin that much more respectable. Try photoskinning, grab a decent pic of anyone that is looking at the camera, with no stupid expression on, and in photoshop make it transparent enough so you can see the original head behind it. Resize ALOT until the eyes, nose and mouth match perfectly to the old one, erase what you don't want to keep, bring the transparency back down and try to match the skin tone using the band-aid tool, and the color options under edit.

See what you come up with! make good use of your layers! :D

Thanks for the tips! As for the dirt and such, I was already doing that! :D

But, thanks for the rest of the tips, I was planning on reskinning the faces too. This is just very early. Skinning clothes isn't my best work of course! :D But we'll see how they turn out.

Hey those look cool Dillinger, I'd definately use those if you release them.

I loved your old FJ skins so a combination of both yours and Russ' work would be fantastic!

Keep up the good work,

Ska

Its what i'm here for :D lol

I'll definately use these Winter FJs though, they look bloody great. I love winter models. I wish someone would make some Eastern Front axis, that would kick ass and go with these a treat.

I usually don't post here because I simply lack the creativity and patience that the modelers in this community have. So I'll just be the support team:cool:

Anyway Dillinger, your pack defenitly has potential and certainly being unique. BTW would it be approriate to have skis, in a pack of some sort, for these Winter Fallshirmjager? (IE: historicallly and HL limitations might be factors) Looks great!

Skis would look weird while they're walking around. Maybe slung over the back....

SWEET SHIFTY!
those seriously look like America's Army winter playermodels (exception of faces and helmet)

GJ
too bad these will only look good on winter maps such as zalec :(

Updated Picture below...

As of this morning, I updated the skins with dirt/grass stains. This made them look a lot better in my opinion. I darkened some folds behind the knee and elbows. I switched the boot texture and added snow onto the boots. Today I'll get to working on some more stuff, but here's the new picture:

These are really lookin good and there coming along nicely! Well done.

lollers...of course they'd be slung over the back. Imagine trying to climb up a ladder... :D

Looks great dillinger. Did you put different boots on them by any chance?

i swear I've seen those boots before, mabye the british ones from Klowns 3.1 pack.

Either that or I'm going mad lol probally the latter :p

Anyway, still looking forward to these, great work mate.

Haha Ska :D

The boots are the defaults from Russ's Axis Para pack. I added some snow and such to them though. :)

They are coming along nicely. Ska - Check your PM's!

Here's a picture of photorealistic wool gloves that replaces the classes that don't wear the leather gloves.

Nice hands, gloves! :D

Update: The fantastic Ska Wars is helping me out, by adding some scrim to the Grenadier and Sniper class helmets! :D I'll post some pictures of this ASAP.

Another Update: Thanks to Landser for giving me some hi-res reference pictures from Band of Brothers. Thanks to the picture he gave me, I was able to make a photo-skinned metal helmet for these. This is one of the three helmets this pack will have. Here's a picture.

Landser

That helmet looks nice.

All skins are done! Here's a look at the smock texture.
Expect a release of these soon, just waiting to get some work from Ska and then test, etc! :D

Landser

They are looking fantastic. The only problem Iīve, would be playing with these models on Anzio for example.
I think itīs time for map specific models for every single map. I would love that.

Dillinger
08-14-2003, 01:02 PM
Agreed Landser, I figure a lot of people won't use them. Hell, I probably won't use these, but if there ever comes a day when we can get them, I figure they'll come in handy.

They'll also be handy for people who want to make winter DoD movies. :)

I figure map specific models can be done, after all, there is a way to get para models on all maps, why not just replace that plugin with winter models, etc.

Dillinger
08-14-2003, 02:48 PM
Here's a very large (350kb) picture of some in-game test shots of these winter skins. Keep in my mind some things are missing. All rifle classes and sniper will have scrim on their helmets, and the MG of course has his bullet chain over his shoulder. Those two things are missing in these pics, but have no fear :).

very nice work dillinger, do you think it would be possible if you could make your own faces? i feel kind of entitled to those faces, scince i made them and dont feel to good letting other people use them.. =\

because if you absolutely CANT make them, i might be able to whip up some new ones for you.

Dillinger
08-14-2003, 04:16 PM
They are excellent faces, I was hoping I could use them.
But yeah, I can try to make some new ones. Would you care if I used the hood texture?

OMG Impressive man... very impressive. :D!

nah go ahead u can use the hood. :) its just the faces i care about.. i guess its an artist thing... i dunno put it in this perspective:

i draw, and its like if someone was making something and wanted to use part of my drawing, id probobly turn them down.

yeah.. i mean i dont mean to be an arse, but thats just me :( sry.

on another note, its a hell of alot more satisfying when its all done by you, from scratch.

otherwise keep it up, looks good so far. :)

08-14-2003, 07:56 PM
No problem, Russ. I totally understand what you mean! :)
Thanks for the hood authorization! They are very well done. :D

Just wondering Dillinger, are these skins the Heer troops or Fallschirmjager ? The reason i ask is, your title says FJ but on your screenshots the map Zalec is a Heer troop type map. If that makes any sense? :)

Their looking really nice either way mate, looking good! :)

Dillinger
08-15-2003, 12:45 AM
They are in fact Fallshirmjager, I replaced the Axis infantry models with these so I could take screenshots on Zalec, because there are no winter-based maps that use the paratroops. :D

But they ARE axis para models. :)

08-16-2003, 09:10 AM
Ohhh, My, Gawwwwd. /dies.

These are awsome Dill, Im using most everything youve released by far. This just adds to it all. Keep up the excellent work as always, And I look forward to release.:D

Thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoy the stuff I've worked on. :)

These will be done soon hopefully! Ska_Wars is adding some cool leaves and such to the K98, K43, and sniper classes' helmets. And I am working on the faces, other than that, it's all ready to go!

Hellfish
08-16-2003, 10:30 AM
very nice work as usual dillinger :D

Sgt. Stryker
08-16-2003, 01:07 PM
Could you also make them for default axis so we can easily play them in Zalec. I like a whole bunch.

Dillinger
08-16-2003, 11:26 PM
Not sure how exactly to do that, but I renamed them to the axis-inf.mdl to take those screenshots and it worked without a hitch!

Russ. Conscript
08-17-2003, 12:26 AM
it did? holy crap, i thought that it would screw up in one area or another.. like mixed equipment or something?

im not surprised they all have torsos, i made an individual body for each class.

:EDIT: nvm i remembered that every class was made individually with every single part. nothing was shared. thats why it works the way it does... im gonna have to let others know about this..

Dillinger
08-17-2003, 10:44 AM
Glad I could be of some kind of service ;)

I've been using your para models for my Infantry since you released them. :D

Just letting everyone know that these will be released as soon as Ska has time to finish the scrim on the rifleman and sniper helmets! Have no fear! :)

those look very good, but its going to be funny when playing when kraftstoffe is on :p
But they look very good.

PS hows vctr's kar98 coming along? If im correct i saw a WIP of that from you some time ago.... and as the v_ model has been released....

Dillinger
08-25-2003, 04:58 PM
Thanks Figuur! :)

As for the K98, yeah I am skinning it, but I heard he is remeshing it or whatever, so I am waiting on that. But Mine was pretty much done, except for half of the metal.
