[MWIP]327th GIR v2 (Normal Play)

I am posting this really to see if there is any interest in it. I did a set before that were just hackjobs on Russ' para models. Someone in the thread (correctly) pointed out that glider troops really should be in regular infantry gear, although they did wear the boots. So basically I did a hackjob on the default infantry models. There is some gear that is incorrect I am sure, but I know nothing about modelling/compiling at all. I just know how to play with the bmp's. So this is the best I can do within the limits of the model. Going by 327 GIR reenactor sites they are not too bad. So excuse any imperfections. I don't play beach maps much so I like using them :D

So if there is interest in these I'll see if I can get them hosted on DoDEC or sumthin. I will also have to obtain permission from Russ as there are two of his camo faces from his paras and I twisted his boot texture all to hell to fit the model ;)

wow! Very nice. I'm not a real big fan of para division skins for normal play, but I may use these. Good job.

You gotta love bots lol attacking in numbers.

Looks good so far mate, I can host these at dod supply (http://www.dodsupply.co.uk) when they're done if you want?

Thanks for the nice words guys. I like them more then I thought I would when I started out. We'll see if Russ pokes his head in here and gives me the ok for the textures. He let me use them on the first 327 set so that should not be a problem (unless he hates these! :p )

There are a few changes I would like to make that would unfortunately require modelling skills that I don't have. Things I would like to see:

'Foliage' camo on the helmets, at least the MG and sniper which have the net on the helmets now.

"Para gear'. Basically webbing and gear arranged like Russ' or Nixon's para models.

Ability to put 101st patch on shoulder of jackets on Mst. Sgt, Sgt, and MG classes without it mirroring.

Proper boots rather then the textures streched over the gaiters.

I doubt I will get any of that done though. All of you lot with the ability usually use it on your own projects. I think I will however make the 101st patch slightly larger on the sleeve, looks a little small.

If anyone has any other suggestions I would love to hear them.
~Arse

P.S.: Yeah Ska, the bots are great for screenies. Now if that bastids would only take direction! "NO! HOLD STILL!! GO BACK WHERE YOU WERE!!!!" lol

I might be able to do that modelling stuff for you on wednesday, seems like a ten minute job.

Thanks again Ska! The big ones for me would be to replace the haversack with the musette bag and drop the entrenching tool down to the waist, ala Russ' paras.

Also the jacket thing, but I imagine that is the most difficult one, would require a double of the body texture with one assigned to one sleeve and torso, the other to just one sleeve, would it not? The helmets are not a big deal, I can certainly live with them the way they are.

You want this model now?... you want to just edit your default ones?... just lemme know, I'm gonna go work on that shoulder patch. :D

Shoulder patches are a piece of cake mate, you can jus edit triggers transparent patches and assign them to the para gear sub models.

If you could send me those models tomorrow i should be able to get them done for you by Wednesday night GMT.

OK Ska, check your PM's for those models. I'll PM Russ as well and ask his permission on the musette bag, any other gear and textures. (I assume you were going to use his gear??)

Here is a pic of what I think is the improved 101st patch on the shoulder.

Yes please on the fries! No salt though.

As for the helmets, they should be the regular infantry ones. (Sorry to the ppl who know their gear well, I don't know the proper designations of both.) However, there is one helmet of the three textures that rather then being a front and back texture, is a side view (one with the net), like the ones on the para models. If the other helmets could be changed to use a similar texture that would allow much better detail on the 'club' emblem.

I'll PM you some Reenactor photos later tonight.

Thanks for the permission and the nice words Russ :D I am hoping these will really make something unique amongst regular models. Don't think we have ever had infantry with jump boots and para gear!

Side note: on the topic of the jump boots I am a little confused. Reenactor photos clearly show Corcoran boots and bloused trousers (on some). But in the book, BoB it clearly states that this was not the case. I will be looking for more info on it and if anyone here knows better then me, please feel free to share!!

EDIT** While almost all text reference say no jump boots, over half of the photo references I can find show them being worn with gaiters (leggings). I beleive this is the look I will go for.

i think tha look is excellent, keep it up. its definately different from what were used to seeing. what exactly are these though? i mean theres "airborned infantry" but i dident know that they actually wore infanty gear and clothing, i.e. the leggings.

You got me curious AFG, what is your helmet idea?

Cpl.Rusty, thanks for those pics. The first one I had come across, but not the second. To be honest they are actually a conundrum to me. They clearly show the typical para trousers etc, which goes against all written doctrine I have seen on glider troops as well as 95% of the refs I have found. All I can figure is some of them got the trousers for D-Day itself for the extra carrying ability, but were probaby put back into the regular uniforms after resupply. (Just a theory anyways :p)

And Russ, as for your question on the leggings and such that is what the typical glider troops wore. Hrere are two more useful ref pics:

This one showa a 327th Vet with some reenactors, shows a good variety of regular infantry uniforms with the para gear (webbing etc.) PIC (http://www.msu.edu/~colvinch/Larry%20and%20327.JPG)

And this one I quite like, it is a vintage pic. I like it because it shows the guy in front in the infantry style jacket and helmet while he is obviously 101st. Also, if you look at the closest guy laying behind him the leggings are clearly seen. PIC (http://www.msu.edu/~colvinch/10070463pfePaGLvcv_ph.jpg)

Hope to get these released soon guys, Ska has been very busy though and it may take him a few days to get around to some of the work that is needed. Thank you for the encouragement though :D

Well guys, I got the recompiled models from Ska today, man they look great with the para gear. Let me take the first of a few times I will thank Ska publicly, would be a boring set without you :)

Just a day or two to playtest/tweak and they will be on the release page.

(Sorry guys, I am at work so no preview screens of the para gear on them.)

Very nice work Arsenal I won't use these since I prefer regular US army troops but I can't wait to see what these will look like with the new model assemblies. Good job :) btw Ska could you do some basic model assembying for me too? I'll PM you about it or if ever you're on MSN we can talk about it :)
