Steam is not replacing conventional purchasing methods. Steam is merely a way to buy it whilst wearing your underwear.

CS 1.6 is not customizable because it wasn't supposed to be released. I think you are asking cause you can't customize CS 1.6 and you think everything on Steam is like that. It's not. I have DoD retail and I just moved my files to the new dod directory.

DOD Retail isn't on Steam. It just uses VGUI 2.0.

You can customize CS 1.6, you just need to make new folders for the proper customizations. Extract new maps to "maps", new weapons models to "models" etc.

No. DoD retail uses VGUI2.0, which just so happens to be the same GUI that Steam uses...that's why they look similar.

I have both versions of DoD and both are customizable...I use custom sounds/models/maps and they all work perfectly fine with the retail version.

DoD dont use steam, let me put it this way, load up steam, and there will be no Day of Defeat under the games part (unless you have copied DoD into you steam folder, then its there).

Once again, DOD Retail does NOT run on Steam. As Andy stated, Steam happens to use VGUI 2.0. Don't you ever act as if I could possibly be wrong again.

Check the steam main page, does DoD retail show up in it's game list .... yes it does. But as of right now it's not in the official valve games list, and you can only get it to work with the Steam launcher by throwing your DoD folder in the SteamCache.

I'd just like to know when they're going to officially throw it in the menu.

The ability to customize DoD (or any game on the HL engine) is one of the things that has kept me playing DoD. If they kill customization (and I'm not saying they have) with Steam or on HL2, I may have to find another game to occupy my time.

Well, granting that Day of Defeat will hopefully be moving to HL2, then it will be customizable. Valve made an agreement with Softimage for a modelling tool.
