How do you like your models?

Do you like the V, P, & W models to all have high res textures (Example 512x512) or just the V model to have high res textures and the P & W models to have low res textures (Example 128x128)?

Well since DoD is on the 5 year old half-life engine I like all the models to have high res.

But on newer games that suck up all the CPU and grafix power im content with low res

I used to be super crazy and have everything use 512x512 textures, but I've noticed nowadays that my performance takes a hit with such insane stuff. So, I guess I'd rather have lower res p and w models -- I don't really notice the difference when I'm playing anyway.

I'm working on a pack. I'm editing as much as I can. Adding sounds, resizing textures, reorigining, etc... etc...

Just found the difference.

High-Res textures
P Model size: Up to 2 megs!

Low-Res textures: Up to Half a meg!

I lvoe them hi res and hi poly, i have an Über 1337 PC that can handle them

hey Vic

ive never had a problem with high res textures or high poly models.

P_models: i'd go with low poly low res tex skins. cuase my thinking is, you dont really look to closely at them so why replace it with high poly **** that takes up speed.

W_models: i'd go with a good amount of polys, but high rex textures, cause you want to konw clearly what gun ur picking up.

V_models: ...............HIGH EVERYTHING !!!!!!! w/ FOV

As a general rule: I make my p_ and w_ model skins half the size of the v_ model one. Same with poly counts, too.

oh wrong models *AHEM*

I'd have to agree with cheeto on this.

And don't forget Trigger's transparent lens gas mask in the hackjob sticky.

I dunno what my gasmask has to do with this, but I thought I'd say that I'm with Cheeto on this issue. Making high rez p and w models is simply an unnecessary waste of resources. That memory and cpu power could be better spent on other things.

I really don't think about performance anymore with the computer I have. I can have high-poly everything and still have unnoticable changes in framerate. I used to have a seriously ****ty computer, though, and that's when I would worry about it.

Yeah, when it comes to model, there no sense in holding back the detail. HL is a 5 year old engine, and msot everyone with decent computers can ahndle high-poly models. Theres just those few with really crappy ones that have problems, but why should the inadequecies of a small minority affect the large majority of computers that CAN handle these wonderful looking high resolution, high polycount models?

And who the hell says you never get close enough to see P or W models? Or that the detail in uneccesary? You just dont play much DoD if you think that.

Whenever you see a W model, you see it in all its high quality glory, or in the case of defaults, its blocky, lego-like glory. When ever you shoot someone close range, you see there P model and W model. If ones better looking than the other, you'll notice, and BAM!, the illusion of reality is gone. Watching in spectator mode, its really ruins the expierince to see some nice quality models, toting block, squarish, blurry looking P models. If you're going to use ugly P models, you may as well use ugly player models too.

What good a nice smmoth, high-polycount sniper rifle, if as soon as you drop it, a lego duplicate spawns on the ground in front of you.

It may be jsut me, but some days, I jsut join game to watch spectator mode, simply because its almost movie like. I take screenshots to amuse my self.

^ Weirdo. :D

I like hires vees and pee. I don't care so much about wees. Simply because, the player model is holding the gun. They have to have the same resolution, or it looks ugly.
